ColtheJock
Even if we can make some more progress to becoming a full-time club, then that would be great. Making Andy Ford full-time was a big step forward by the club and even a small nucleas of full time players would help with the progress of the team. We will see what happens!!!! Hempstead Gaz
The odd thing is, if the average wage of a Fleet play IS £500, then isn't that not far short of a good full time salary for a average worker?.
Number 8
Average for where?... I'm sure the admin team at the fleet get far less than 500 squid a week.. The club would need to double the weekly wages to accomodate full time players, who will lose that amount if they give up their regular jobs. I take your point, but in essence it's like employing two of everyone currently at the club.. You can only do this with good gate and corporate revenues. Guest
I would be astonished if part time footballers at the Fleet each earned an average of £500 per week. Assuming this "average" applied to 15 players, this would be £7,500 per week. Assuming further that this was payable only during the football season and ignoring any retainer paid during the closed season, this would mean a wage bill for players only of approximately £292,500 per annum! Adding to what the club pays the manager and coaches and office staff can this really be feasible? Until players contracts become transparent I think that we will just have to guess like we have always done in the past. Remember that if a player is earning, say, £19,500 pa gross at the Fleet for just 39 weeks of work ( but not working all of these days of course)and this is added to his full time job, they must be pretty well off. They are. Football players are all very well off to my knowledge. It's hard to know any real solid figures when it comes to football at this level, but the game football manager for example, seems to think that the average wage for the club at this time is probably somewhere in the region between 400-500 pounds. Of course the wages used on the game are all fictional as that sort of information isn't released at this level. But I'd still like to think that its quite an accurate guess knowing how much effort goes into researching for this game in particular.

FleetFanatic
Quote: Actually I have a hunch Mr. Ford will soon be on his way out of Stonebridge Road. To be honest, those who want the club to move forward have a point - but they have the wrong target. Just as certain players are have found the step up to the conference a step too far, (example: Che now banging in goals again at Margate) the same can be said for managers - sometimes the conference is a step too far. Andy Ford is no longer the man to take the club forward. It's time to go. It's not always nice to be correct, but it was true. Thanks for the past few years Andy.
