BRAINTREE 5 BILLERICAY 0

Just getting back to the attendances, and the suggestion that some clubs are unduly biased by one very good (or very small) gate.

The averages calculated for all games except each clubs highest and lowest gates are (number in brackets is difference to overall average):

Dover 569 (-13)

Folkestone 368 (-126)

Salisbury 482 (-3)

Billericay 409 (+4)

Boretree 372 (-26)

Showing that Folkestone, in particular, and Boretree have had their averages increased by >5% by a single anomalously high gate. Billericay have had their average dragged down slightly by the low gate. 2 teams there had their home bank holiday game on the 27th December, Boretree and Folkestone. Billericay were due to be at home but postponed owing to a frozen pitch, Salisbury away but postponed, Dover away at Folkestone.

We can also point to the fact that Billericay have had substantial gates in all their home games in FA Competitions : Flackwell Heath (600+), Stevenage (1800+), Exeter (1300+), although 2 of those 3 teams brought a substantial away support (Flackwell of course brought nobody!) In comparison Boretree had 3 home games in FA Competitons - Soham Town (181), Tonbridge (251), Margate (357), all well below average.

And finally, Boretree's average will have been boosted relative to ours by the fact that we took substantially more fans to their place than they brought to ours....

Hehe procrastinate and go into contortions as much as you like. Figures, figures damn lies and statistics. The fact remains Billericay are fourth best supported club and we are fifth just 8 spectators below. FA Cup comparisons don't make us laugh, we were playing Soham etc in qual rounds 1,2&3. You were quoting attendances for Billericay in 4thQ and 1st round proper. We all know crowds rise each at each stage accordingly.

Now for some real facts. Braintree are the most northern club in the league, therefore fans coming from London or Kent have much further to travel than to say New Lodge. The fact we get good away support coming to our ground from Heybridge, City and yourselves suggests our superb ground, facilities and hospitality is a draw card for all those in the know.

Goodnight.

Well he's ignorant of the meaning of the word procrastinate... although allowance should be made for the fact he's an aussie.

The fact remains that more people have watched Billericay than Braintree (how many of the 895 actually turned up? Postings on both Chelmsford and Boretree forums suggested about half). Despite the fact that Boretree has a population 4 times that of Billericay and there are no other football teams for miles.

Of course when we talk about being the best supported team, we are naturally also talking about the quality of our support which is far superior in every way

Yeah Simon wrong word, maybe it should have been 'wriggling'about.

OK now some truths.

Braintree population ca 42000 in a district council of ca 130000

Billericay population ca 36000 but with Brentwood and Basildon only 5 miles away.

OK Gazza now you mate. Poster no-where in sight huh! Well you know me well both from this very website and in person. What I do know is you were so anti-Braintree in our inaugural year in the Ryman (season 2001-2) You bet me a tenner that Billericay just had to finish the season higher than IRON. You Welshed on that bet like a cool Englishman.

With regards to enjoying this particular result, I remember the piss taking from you lot when we lost 4-0 in the FA cup season 2002-3 (I was there). I've bided my time and now true to form those that put it around can't take it when the boots on the other foot.

Goodnight

'Wager was sent to charity' hehe which one? One may have expected the owner of the money to have done the nominating. That reminds me, I recently chipped in a tenner to the Tsunami appeal. I'll have to keep that up my sleeve for the mext bad bet I make, Naaaa! I couldnt do that.

Anyhow we hope you "riccay" lads can raise your game and grind out a nil-nil with Eastleigh today.

However in my view our biggest problem is up front. Cus hasn't scored for five games and let's face it, hard worker though he is, Ross never looks like scoring.

Glad to see JL with a large omelette on his face then....
