WW, Not sure how much. I’m told about £500, perhaps someone else knows?

A lot of what you say makes sense, and whilst I think that there isn't a groundswell of support for Gills in the area , especially my old stomping ground in the east of the borough. I take the point that with a promotional campaign and potential big games that could change, and that would be to our detriment.

So whilst it is all important that we keep our fingers crossed that the Gills fail. It is even more important we get ourselves noticed and have a plan A, B and C.

The key to it all is increasing the regular punters who turn up each week down the Road. The more we get the bigger voice we have.

PS Would you know a person who its worth spending a £500 deposit on ?

Sorry, I missed something, deposit on what?

From the Anon's post earlier it seemed to suggest to me, that he or she was proposing a Fleet First candidate at the upcoming general election, as for a small outlay it may generate some publicity for our cause.

The deposit for a parliamentary election is currently £1,000.00 for that you get a free mail shot to every household in the constituency.

The thing is, to make a success of any candidate, surely a slight name change might be required?

'Gravesend First' would possibly allow the candidate the opportunity to also stand for other issues, in turn increasing the chance of more votes?

Put a candidate up under the banner of 'Fleet First' and you'll only get the votes of Fleet supporters, whilst alienating yourself from other prospective voters. The candidate, to be elected, has got to appeal to THE WHOLE COMMUNITY.

You have to get the required number of signatures from registered electors, I think it was 50 the last time I was involved, and this has to be handed in together with the readies something like 3 weeks prior to the date of the election.

Next question: Anyone know anything about the Representation of the People Act, cos you will need an Agent and he will have to keep the candidate out of jail. That expenses form is a real nightmare. (and that was only the council one)

Erm no. we would be promoting the Fleet.

We should not have any other agenda.

We would not just get Fleet fans votes , but the votes of fans from other clubs.

Despite only getting 1200 home fans for most games , we have thousands of dormant and 2nd club supporters in the area.

It would only work, if we were single issue.

We are promoting the Fleet not world peace.

OK.....next questions;

When do we have to get a candidate registered by, and have we any potential candidates?

With a good backing and as long as I know what I'm doing I'd like to hear any argument why I should not put myself forward.

Because you're a horses @r$e.

Oh wait, I guess that'd make you perfect

Ok, so you don't like the Margate example. What about Maidstone promoted to Division 4 who had to play in Dartford and sent both teams out of business! Also the more you look at it the Scally scheme is for a casino (good grief-- how unimaginative!), housing, a school (we already have over capacity in this area)etc ,oh, and a stadium. If he could build the rest without an attached football club I am convinced he would do so. His plans are just too grandiose!

I’ve been busy for most of the day so unfortunately I have been unable to participate further in this discussion.

I don’t think the timing is right for Fleet to stand a candidate forward for the coming election, I KNOW the timing is right. The timing couldn’t be better infact. There are more and more people, who for various reasons are choosing to abstain from voting in the forthcoming election, all we are asking is that instead, a significant proportion of these lend their votes to the Fleet. The campaign would simply act as a vehicle in which to champion our course to a wider audience. We cannot loose, because we have nothing to loose, unlike the mainstream political parties – which local candiade would seriously consider attempting to derail a campaign on behalf of the towns local football team?

There would be some kind of role to play for anyone who wants to be a part of it, from fund raiser or canvasser to administrator or simply providing ideas and technical knowledge.
