A bit like Liverpool and Man United, Rugby United fielded a team including six youth-team players and a couple of reserves for their Southern League Cup tie against Sutton Coldfield the other night. They led 2-0 with a minute of normal time to go.

 

Then Sutton levelled with two late goals, and in extra time scored six more to win 8-2. Tony Dobson, the former Coventry and Northampton defender, now manager of Rugby, said: "I was proud of the lads. It might look like a drubbing, but for 90 minutes we were the better team and deserved to win. The heads dropped and their legs went in extra time."
