Why were Gravesend on Meridian today?

Recommended Posts

Anyone know. I saw them but couldn't hear it, on the TV in the Court. It had picures of the ground, Kilcullen, Fordy and some people getting on the coach (probably got a lot to do with the Charlton fans who are happy enough to live in this town but won't support the team and so think the Premeirship is just a coach journey away).

But don't see how this has anything to do with us. Okay so Charlton are stealing our fans for a few extra quid but most people wont see this as any sort of insult.

It was all to do with the proposed new ground, a mile from Stonebridge Road. Brian Kilcullen was saying about how he thought that sharing with Gillingham, which it turns out we could be forced to do, would not be the best option for the club. He also re-inforced his views on Gillingham coming to Gravesham, and how they should stay where they are.

Fordy was saying how it would be good to have a new ground, and how 7 years ago he never expected to come this far.

The fans getting on the coach were Gravesend fans, could be pictures from Villa park, out of the archives.

The pictures of the ground were all to do with how we need a new ground to progress any further up the football pyramid if it got to that stage.

One of the members of Gravesham Council was also on there, harping on about how Gravesend and Northfleet were always the club with priority in the area.

Are you new?

London is growing to the point of the Themes gateway in Gravesend (well ebbsfleet) and that means new jobs new homes and thousends of new people, or as chairmen of Gillingham see them customers.

So Gillingham what to capitalise on this venture by moving themselves to Gravesend. Trouble is we don't want them here, not in any capacity. We don't want a ground share or a merger with them, both of which could see us fastracked to the Football League.

Apparently we may have to, if Scully gives a big enough golden handshake that is, share with them because of the council may make us.

Me?

In ways yes, in ways no. I first went to see Gravesend in December 1995. I saw them regularly for a few years, then travel/money/health problems came into play and I couldn't see them as much. Now, things have got better and I've started going again now and have been to the last 4 home games (as said in another thread.)

I am quite aware of the groundshare situation. Obviously - by my last post - I don't know everything on the situation, but I know a fair bit. I just wasn't aware that we may be forced to share. I thought it was our choice and I know that we are not for the share. But now, thanks to your post I'm more aware as to why we may be forced to share. So thank you.

I've heard that Scally will get the money from the casino brand who want their casino literally next to the stadium (or somewhere around). Still, it won't come to that, does anyone know how many campaign coupons were returned to the Reporter offices in the end??

Why do you lot bleat on about not wanting to groundshare? They groundshare on the continent very successfully, I think this is the little englander mentality, you would be getting a new stadium that your 1,000 fans could visit twice a month, lets face it you do not have the financial support of any big backers to build your own, where and how would you raise the finance? I dont know the population of the surrounding area but I bet more people go up to london to watch a match.

The ground is in Northfleet, you could call yourselves the Northfleet Dons. You really have to get over this little englander mentality, its called progress, your not living in royston vasey, local shops for local people, open your minds. Just think you could be a feeder club to the gills?

The Gills have enough on their plate stopping their locals deserting to Charlton to worry about us.

If the Gills go down this year, you've got to fear for their future.

My new year resolution wasn't to react to anomymous posters who want to wind me up....but I aint gonna lose weight either so who gives a XXXX ?

So...in simple terms for you Mr A, so you can understand quiet clearly:-

1 - Gillingham belong in Medway, not Gravesend.

2 - Mr S seems to becoming more unhinged by the minute

3 - Fleet for ever ( sorry, bit of a schoolboy one that !)

4 - Fornicate off & decease Mr Anonymous !!

Ok ....that's the last you'll hear from me for another couple of months !! Away for a bit !

Byeeee

Cheers,
