Morning listening

Recommended Posts

Spent this morning listening to Wings Over America, the live triple album from 1976.

Have to admit, I don't see the point in releasing a live album if you try and minimise all the crowd noise and cut out all the talking between tracks.

Familiar To Millions by Oasis is a great live album for the reasons just mentioned. All Liam's rantings and the crowd almost louder than the band in places.

Concert For Bangladesh is probably my favourite live album.

Of course, the worst types of 'live' album are when they're touched up in the studio afterwards to 'enhance' the sound, sometimes even vocals or guitar are re-recorded. Robbie Williams - you are found guilty.

Listened to Nirvana "Unplugged in New York" the other day. Not a big fan of Nirvana but it's a decent live album.

Having watched the last Macca live DVD, I don't believe McCartney is a great talker for in between song banter so that complaint is pretty redundant. He just plays through the hits with some acknowledgement to the crowd. Whilst not a great live album, it is a good representation of Wings live and I enjoy it whenever I dig it out.

Yep the "Concert" album is okay but and is a good representation of what happened and again, when dug out, I enjoy it.

I've posted my opinion of the best live album and it still is The Who's Live At Leeds...The only shame with the deluxe version is the "famous" clicks have been "mastered" out...In the search for perfection in sound...

I have just bought Supertramp's Live In Paris album and that is a corker of an album as well. Worth the investment.

Robbie isn't the worst offender of "touching up" a live album...Judas Priest Unleashed In The East was recorded in the studio with the crowd noise dubbed on...Now that is cheating.

Not at all. You've totally misunderstood. I'm not saying he should talk more. I'm saying they shouldn't have cut it all out. When I listen to a live album, I want to hear the concert exactly how it was.
