Eastbourne FA Trophy Away

For those who did not go last night,

Bloody great goal, supurb defence splitting pass by Protheroe and great finish by Manny.

Rest of the game absolute crap. We were lucky to hold out the second half, the team looked as if thay had met for the first time again especially the midfield, the defence played well, but were made to work hard by treating the ball as if it was red hot and kept punting upfield it only to recieve it back directly.

Still it gets us through, bring on Histon.

We were dominatated from start to finish. Don't let the result fool anyone. Toothless in front of goal. Ford looked like a cat who had got the cream afterwards. However he has got to look at that performance and ask questions about our lack of any quality.

Good finish by Manny I agree. But on another day we could have lost by three or four. Eastbourne must have run over a black cat whilst going under a ladder.

Can we not find a Conference striker anywhere ? What about Eastbourne's front two they ran us ragged ??

You might think Histon will be a stroll in the park but we do currently have the leading strike force in the non pyramid so we might cause you a few problems.

Not sure about our midfield against yours but hey we will enjoy our day out at your place.

Sorry to disagree with you Simon, but nobody at our end think you will be a stroll in the park.

Even with half our defence cup tied , we still look very tight at the back, BUT our forward line are pants at the moment with only have 2 recognised strikers at the club in Essandoh and Onoyimni, with Pinnock often having to play up front despite being an attacking midfielder.

Still think we will sneak it 1-0, though.

Nonsense, thought our defence coped with them extremely well, and I couldn't see Eastbourne scoring in the second half, despite their possession, apart from a set piece. In fact we caught them on the break on a number of occasions, but our final ball was very poor, particularly from Sidibe. Yes we did lead a charmed life a couple of times in the first half, but I thought we deserved our win, against a side who wouldn't cut in the Conference week after week. I didn't see any handball for the penalty claim, just what I thought was Drury heading on to the crossbar and over. Perhaps someone could give their view on it. Dreadful and totally unnecessary challenge on Drury which could keep him out for a while. Saunders, Surey, Gledhill, Protheroe, Maccarthy, Manny all played well, maybe not pretty to watch, but a professional performance none the less

I think a professional performance was what was needed, and it seems that was the case. I was nervously watching telextext for the result last night as I stayed at my girlfriends!!!! A win is a win and in cup games you sometimes need to dig in and scrap for the win which it looks like the Fleet did. No game is easy in football anymore and I am sure the Fleet will treat Histon with repsect in the next round. Still, it is a great chance to progress with the home tie. Need to concentrate on the league again now for a tough game on Saturday, but one which we can win!!!!!

Went to watch your game at Eastbourne last night as a neutral. Didn't think you looked in any real trouble really and looked much classier than Eastbourne. Sure they had some good chances, but overall I thought your lot looked comfortable.

To be fair to the players, the wind totally ruined the game as it always does at Priory Lane, even on a good day.

So can't agree with some of the comments on your forum about Eastbourne dominating the game, the only thing you didn't really do was to kill the game properly which always kept Eastbourne in it with only one goal between you.

Also, I think the report on the Eastbourne website was biased to say the least.

Just thought I'd put in my two pennuff.... not that I'm any good judge following Dover at the moment!

Good luck for the rest of the season.

Not one of the best performances by a long chalk. Only one quality piece of football during the whole night, a surperb pass by Proth's and a deadly finish from Manny. £4,000 in the bank, thank you very much. Let us not forget, we were understrength and playing on a heavy surface, not to mention the gale force wind, that obviously effected both sides. The conditions were not exactly going to contribute to a good match so lets put things in to perspective.

Quite frankly, they deserved what they got after Stuart 'the horsebox' Playford's dreadfull challenge on Drury, which effectively took out one of the only quality footballers on show. Teams that go out to clobber talent get no sympathy from me. Forget the alledged handball incident, wasn't given so not worth a mention. Happens every week and more often or not against us.

As for Playford the future is bleak, Pub Football ?, perhaps a job as Drayman's horse for a local brewery ? May be a Quality Controller for 'Pukka' Pies ? Good riddens.

There's a post on the Eastbourne Message Board saying the ball hit our players shoulder, and several other of their supporters behind the goal agreed with him. The referee also pointed to his shoulder amidst all the protests. So it could well be that Eastbourne were trying to con the ref, and we could have been reduced to ten men and a goal down as a result.

A little embarrassing coming to Priory Lane with a DAFC woolly hat on & then having the temerity to stand behind the goal and give a one-eyed(probably green!)account of the game.

You must be the same bloke who was clad in black & white @ St Leonards a few easons back!

Typical Sussex supporter.... skulking around in cowardly fashion annonymously making inane comments, then running away and hiding.

Pompous club, still in the Sussex County League mode.

Stand by waht I say... Gravesend were classier by a mile.
