Anyone now prepared to admnit that the side is better suited to a 3-5-2 ish formation????

The players Eddie has brought are suited for 3-5-2. I am thinking in particular Haddow, Carbon, Saulsbury, Metcalf.

However, I felt 4-4-2 worked well against Cheshunt and Hendon where we created lots of chances. Haddow would be a real threat on the left wing. The problem position if we play 4-4-2 is right back. Saulsbury looks much more comfortable at centre half and has been excellent there all season. Carbon is a very attack minded wing back and has been IMO one of our best players over the last two seasons. But his strength is going forward so is better suited to home games where we are on the front foot.

The debate on the right formation could go on for ever, but most of my memories of our better performances are when we have played 3-5-2. Haddow and Carbon were the stand-out players for me but the 4-4-2 doesn't give them enough freedom to get forward. Also 4-4-2 means we have to leave out one out of Murphy1, Daly, Saulsbury, Haddow and Carbon and for the most part that has looked pretty solid.

I disagree with comments above about playing backwards - last night I felt we played too many long balls over the top. We don't really have the pace up front to exploit this and neither Spencer or Seedel were running past Hodgey for the flick-on. The "million dollar" pass isn't going to work that often, although it did create a chance for Spence, and teams will soon get wise to it.

I think Northwood deserve credit for last night. The goal was a bit of a freak but after a poor start they really worked for each other and denied us space in midfield. When we couldn't play through them we resorted to the long ball which was dealt with all too easily.

No need to panic, we are still a decent side and I am sure the results will come.

4-4-2? 3-5-2? Different formations work better in different games. All I know is that if chances aren't getting created by Carbon and Haddow they're not getting created at all. Opposition tactic - play with width and push up on the wing backs and we have nothing else other than the long ball over the top. Or, last nights tactic, long ball into the f***ing crowd at almost every opportunity.

I think that is dead right. They did not look anything special and scored a freak goal and then had a good chance from a set piece but did not look like scoring. However, they did work bloody hard and their midfield dominated. I think it was helped by our poor passing but you cannot deny they put in a lot of effort.
