Fixture dates

BFR

Recommended Posts

It would seem that we have managed to re-arrange some of our postponed matches (source: Ryman League website)

Slough vs Staines Tuesday 22nd February

Slough vs Heybridge Swifts Tuesday 22nd March

We still have to sort out a date for our home fixture with Hendon and our away match with Yeading that was scheduled for 5th February but will now be moved because of our FA Trophy match with Thurrock.

Our Bryco Cup match against Salisbury has been penned in for Tuesday 8th February, though that would be changed if the FA Trophy game requires a replay.

At the moment the Ryman website has both our Trophy game and Windsor's league fixture with Hampton to be played on Saturday 5th February. Obviously that won't happen and the likely scenario is we will play on the Sunday. Hopefully the club will announce the date of this match shortly

Not decrying BFR's efforts in updating everyone, but the two re-arranged dates were both in the Hendon programme. This means that someone at the club must have known about them a week ago. Is it too hard for the club to

a) Let the Official website Know

B) Announce the re-arranged fixtures at a home match.

Communication is an essential part of building a team.

I'm with BFR on this.

I wasn't at that match, but for those I attended before Christmas, Roy might as well have not been talking. The PA at Stag Meadow is very quiet, and it is very difficult to hear what's being said, especially when there's a decent-sized crowd. I mean, I might have had the lucky programme/ticket and missed out big time

Maybe Roy needs to 'turn up the wick a bit', for the Slough games?

(Though probably not so necessary for Windsor's heaving throngs )

No even at our games we can hardly hear it. Then again it is hard to when you are in the bar!

But behind the goals it's impossible to hear it and our annoucer waits until a plane goes over to talk.

The problem seems to be that there is a lady who lives at the house at the corner of the ground who goes ape if the volume is turned up to a level where anybody can actually hear it. Whoever is in charge of the volume control can guarantee they will get it in the neck!

I usually sit in the stand about 20 feet from Roy and still have to listen hard to get the teams!

I guessed that was probably the case, although I would have thought that a better compromise could be reached...

...eg pre-/post-match music at lower levels than present in exchange for higher speech volumes before and during the game?

Seems like the system would benefit from a re-design, if the local residents cannot be appeased:

- more speakers, at same or lower volumes, especially behind the goals

- speakers angled downwards to minimise 'drift' over the fences

- speakers positioned lower, or facing away from houses

- higher fence at town end, specifically designed to reduce noise pollution

- etc

Obviously all this requires money, but in terms of 'meeting customer expectations' would be useful to consider (in the same way as terrace cover behind the goals, improved floodlighting, etc, etc - and no, Woody, not a sly dig at WEFC, just general observations.)

I think alot of the behind the goal people would like cover at the far end at least. Perhaps both clubs or supporters clubs/trusts could come to some sort of deal. Although that would only happen in an ideal world!

My understanding was that WEFC were looking into obtaining planning permission, and that that was the next hurdle to overcome - the funding being rather less of a problem.

Need to ask Mal that one (I think he was the source of that snippet of information originally)...

[This is starting to career wlidly off-topic. I wasn't intending to start another discussion about terrace cover. Perhaps someone could start a new thread if they really want to re-open that particular wound!]

last post on the cover subject. I remember Mal saying we did have planning permission for one end but he wasn't sure if it was still in date or something along those lines.

I'd like to see it at the crash barrier end myself as there is less atmopshere at that end due to the distance from the pitch. The 'Town End' Is fine as it is and with a stand we'd be further away from the pitch imo

I was waiting for Windsor to say they wanted to do it - as far as I am concerned, the financial offer I made still stands.

Re the tannoy, surely there's a safety requirement for it to be heard? The Police went to great lengths, unnecessarily, prior to our cup games to ensure that fencing was removed to allow safe access onto the pitch and away from the ground in the event of emergencies. Some bloody help if you cannot hear the tannoy announcement telling you to leave.

I have zero sympathy with people who live near football grounds. Stag Meadow was there when they bought their houses, probably, so you take account of any inconvenience that's likely to result. What next? People buying houses in Colnbrook and complaining about the aircraft noise?!

Let's start a 'TURN THE TANNOY UP' campaign.
