New Goalkeeper

Recommended Posts

Last night we signed Paul Wilkerson so that the squad now has two goalkeepers.

As soon as I have his biography, it will appear on the player profiles page.

Paul played in the FA Trophy final last season for Stevenage, and was also previously with Slough when they were in the Conference.

(The club photo shoot is tomorrow, so the new pictures will be in place shortly)

Excellent signing. A keeper with plenty of Conference experience was an essential addition to the squad to be able to patrol the box and marshall the back four. I'm happy now that we have a good quality keeper, and with Jamie to back him up I'm sure we'll be fine. Still a maasive shame about Franco though!!

I don't know about second guessing the manager but going back to the70's and 80's and picking between Clemence and Shilton would be an easier task. Is it time for Andy to resurrect King Solomon for a consultation? Has he made his life harder or easier with this signing?

Dave, I'm only guessing, but I have a sneaky feeling that ANdy will go for Wilkerson purely because of the experience he has at this level. We will need a keeper who will guide the back four around (especially considering the loss of Francis), and I would think that Wilkerson will be better equiped than Jamie to do that. Only an opinion and hunch - I could well be wrong

I've got no problem with that, and I would think that Andy will go with Jamie to start off with. I just worry that as a new team to a very difficult league we are going to find it very hard, and that experience may be very important to us, particularly at the very back.

The best possible thing that could happen would be that Jamie gets out there in the early games and has a few stormers to give him bags of confidence to take through the season. I'm sure we're all agreed on that point. My point is that if this doesn't happen then it is important to have someone to come in who has been there and done it before, rather than blooding another newcomer to the conference.

Now that will be good, presuming we will be putting out the same team as will play Hayes next week.
