In reply to an e.mail sent by me personnally to Iris Johnson C/O Labour Party(See at foot of page letter drafted to her.Here she replies)

I was absolutely amazed to receive your e

mail. I hope you recall the three public meetings I

called as cabinet member for Tourism and Leisure at

All Saints and the Dog and Duck (paid for by myself)

and a further meeting attended at Hartsdown Leisure

Centre. I chaired several others at TDC. For the last

two years I have been asking with the Labour leader

Richard Nicholson for a full public meetings as I had

held with all sides sitting at the top table telling

it as it is. I am in constant contact with Ian McBride

at Meridian who would have chaired such a meeting but

I understand all sides wouldnt agee to share a

platform.I and Councillor Nicholson have consistantly

advised the Tories they should have been helping the

club avail of some of the 11 million Sport England

money. A bid should have gone in by last March.

Meeetings have been held behind closed doors at TDC

with individual groups and excluding the Labour Party.

I ensured in my time that all meetings were open to

all sides.The club has this two weeks to meet the

Councils very strong request for information and I

hope they will be satisfied with the business plan

etc. I wish they had worked together as I had

especially with Jim Parmenter so that we would never

have reached this stage.Councillor Nicholson continues

to work to a solution but Labour are constantly out

voted. Night flights without meeting the consultation

requirements of six months consultation just being one

example. The Tories wasted months after May 2003 when

they should have been carrying on my work with Jim.

That in my view was the beginning of the problems we

see now.Labour lost control of the Council by the

Tories twisting the truth about us and now Thanet and

the football club sadly are living through the

consequences.Please feel free to visit me at home and

see the mountain of letters I received and wrote on

I must say Cookie, your initial e-mail to Iris seems rather curt to say the least, if anyone has been doing their bit, it's Iris!

My point Ian is What has she done lately? What Has Ladyman done lately? With all this adverse publicity the tories are getting they should be using it their advantage but they are just sitting back and doing nothing to help OUR cause or indeed their own.

I am blaming the council because I have the freedom of speech!

Anyway the reasons I have are that they really haven't done anything to help us. They have just sat back and demanded all the time.

Oh I really do hope this independant surveyor finds this application viable because the council will really have questions to answer.

Not going to go on about that too much though cos'of counting and chickens and all that.

They are the ones who have denied us the right to go ahead with this and for whatever reason they are the ones holding us back.

Other deveopments have been given the o.k in next to no time and it makes me wonder why.

Lots of companys have viable propositions but find it tough after a while, sometimes anyway. Nothng is guaranteed in the long term.

This council should not be so picky as they have been with us.

They could say, "o.k. go ahead with it but if it fails we get the ground back and the club dies" . We could be forced to give an assurance that should that occur the ground will be put back to the councils liking or face the courts. Something like that anyway.

They cant lose either way. Why are they making such a big deal out of this particular venture.

I'm sorry, no I'm not sorry, I have a right to say what I feel. Am just sad for you, and I do have my suspicions as to who you are and as to your ID.ID. You may work for the council or be married to S.E. but it wont stop me from saying "The council will not give us the go-ahead therefore they are to blame". Simple as that.

Think you will find that its the COUNTY elections in MAY and not as yet the General Election. Blair hasnt decided the date for that yet as far as I am aware. Either way the LOCAL elections arent on the agenda for some time yet!

The last two general elections have been chosen to be on the same date as the county council elections - just making an educated guess.

 

In any case, even if it is later this year, the point about Iris wishing to stay away from controversy remains valid.

I always thought that the "opposition" opposed. Perhaps times have changed and all parties now think alike, agree together and say nothing and just accept that which is being forwarded by the ruling body.

Dont think so somehow.

Labour should and even now be forcing their hand and opposing this tory councils decisions on certain aspects.

go to page 45 you will find a post saying that k/piper did admit to the kent messenger that the club was to blame and not the council dated 13-5-04
