Match Report

Its been a long time coming, but finally a Ampthill win! An outstanding performance based on hard work was the key and the players deserve a huge pat on the back as it was a real team effort at Ampthill Park this afternoon.

New coach Steve Mahoney had everyone buzzing right from the kick off, and it showed, as the amps were first to every ball and looked lively as they set about Kentish Town. Gary Warner(left) hit the post with a left footed curling shot and Lawrence Taylor who was sent clear by Warner had a stinging effort well parried away by Noonan in the Kentish goal.

On twenty minutes the amps were rewarded for their determination when Lawrence Taylor(right) who was causing all sorts of problems for the Kentish defence got clear again, his original shot was well saved but Taylor managed to get to the rebound and smash home much to the delight of the Ampthill Supporters.

Ampthill lost their shape in the last 15 minutes of the half, but Kentish were only reduced to the one real testing effort on goal that was well saved by Robbie Timms low down to his right.

Half Time Ampthill Town 1-0 Kentish Town

The second half started with Ampthill still creating chances as Ashley Hill was winning every ball in the air and in turn this was feeding his strike partner Taylor, who on 55 minutes saw his right footed shot with the outside of the boot destine for the top corner only for the Kentish keeper to pull off a brilliant save.

On 65 minutes the amps deservedly doubled the lead when Ashley Hill drove at the heart of the defence, beat two Kentish players and slotted the ball into the top corner.

Things got even better just 10 minutes later when Ampthill one a free kick, just to the right of the Kentish Town penalty area, Taylor’s cross come shot eluded everyone and went straight in.

Kentish set up a tense finish for the amps when on 80 minutes Paul Tuffs(left) miss timed a tackle in the box. The resulting penalty was tucked away smartly by David Dawson. Ampthill held on for the much deserved 3 points.
