FA Trophy

Slough Town 4-3 Hendon

Both sets of supporters saw seven goals, two saved penalties and a sending off at Stag Meadow as Slough Town progressed in the FA Trophy at the expense of Hendon.

 

The Rebels took control early on, and went ahead after only eleven minutes. Glen Harris cut inside the Hendon defence and curled a left-footed shot low into the corner of the net.

 

Just six minutes later Eddie Denton's men added a second goal when defender Dean Coppard was adjudged to have fouled Ian Hodges in the penalty area. Matt Murphy saw his shot penalty saved by Dave King, but Hodges was on-hand to stab home from the rebound.

 

Despite both Eugene Ofori and Mark Nicholls looking dangerous on the break for Hendon the home side looked comfortable in the first half, with both Harris and Josias Carbon going close to extending the lead.

 

In the second half Hendon manager Gary Farrell threw on Danny Julienne and the midfielders introduction made an almost immediate impact when he set-up Dave Sargent to score.

 

With the next attack Hodges almost added a third for Slough, but was denied by King before the Rebels striker stooped to head home a Carbon cross to extend the home side's lead

 

Hendon pulled another goal back though when a long ball into the area was headed on by Ofori for former Rebels striker Ross Pickett to produce an exquisite overhead kick that found the back of the net.

 

Within minutes Slough restored their two-goal advantage when Hodges headed down an Alex Haddow cross for Ryan Spencer to extend Slough's lead.

 

Typically though Hendon fought back and looked set to make it 4-3 when Carbon fouled Pickett,. John Frendo saw his penalty saved by goalkeeper Michael Parkin.

 

Soon after Slough were reduced to ten-men when Michael Murphy received his second yellow card of the match after a foul on Dave Nolan.

 

In the remaining fifteen minutes it was all Hendon and with minutes remaining a goal from Frendo set up a tense finish, but Slough held on to a victory they should have made much more comfortable earlier in the match.

very fair that review... although could someone confirm that michael's forst yellow card was for doing his shoes up in the box when the penalty was about to be taken?
