Our council Leader Writes

Lets be honest. The council will not help Slough. Slough will be in Windsor until a council come along who will back the club or Slough find a billionair who'll be able to buy a large plot of land for Slough to use. Until then...

It's difficult to blame one party or coallition because Labour promised a great deal but never (got the chance to??) delivered, and the current BILLD seem hell bent on either getting rid of STFC as it currently exists, or putting us back to Wexham Park which doesn't resolve the problem.

It's all fair and well saying it, but the criteria we'd need to meet from the league alone would not be agreed to by the Thornes, so it would apparently be a no go anyway.

These Friends Of Slough which mysteriously appeared from nowhere, have seemingly done the opposite again now and disappeared again, or at least have been very quite. So Friendly, they've not bothered to contact anyone from either the club or the Trust, so how they are working in 'the best interests of the club' is beyond me. The best interests of what Stokes & co want? Probably. Won't exactly help us in the long run though.

Its probably worth remembering what Martin Deaner said at the Polish club meeting. He made it very clear that he felt that the Labour administration he had been dealing with were honest, open and realistic about trying to help, but that he didn't beleive a word that the others (including a previous Labour leader) said.

If they suddenly find out that the proposed boundry changes are not going to happen and therefor they will not be able to develop then maybe they will be interested.

However there in no point returning back when they own it as we will need full control of bar/boot sale to generate revenue, and i cant see them giving us that on top of using the ground.

True Gary, what worries me is the constant comments SBC make about the mysterious 'Friends of Slough'. If indeed they can strike up a deal with the Thornes I feel it would only lead to bad things.

Firstly if a takeover bid is made that involves a return to Wexham Park I would be worried that people would think it's the solution to our problems, when in fact we are being led into a false sense of security and unknown problems.

On the other hand, if it was turned down the Council would have a great opportunity to say they helped us get back to Slough and we turned it down.

The Friends of Slough have no current interest in the club so quite what they can do to help is beyond me. They have also failed to make any contact with the supporters or the trust. Quite why the council believe the best way of helping the club is to ignore the supporters and the current owners and work with some random group is another mystery.

It is so they can spin things in a way that makes it look like they are doing something when in fact they are not.

But who has many millions to buy it anyway? We know Mr. Deaner's pockets are deep but not that deep. I think it would take our regular 300 some while to raise 20 million quid. The land has no huge value now but the Thornes don't care about today's losses they are looking at long term investment. It would take a stupidly good offer to get the freehold from them now.
