Getting interesting councillor replies

Dear ...

Thanks for contacting me re MFC. Perhaps you would allow me to make my position clear.

I am not a member of the Council Cabinet, hence I will not be taking part in tomorrow's meeting. The Cabinet consists of the Leader (Cllr. Ezekiel), Deputy Leader (Cllr. Bayford) and six other portfolio holders - Cllrs. Wise, Mrs. Spencer, Peppiatt, Kirby, Hibberd, and Latchford (Leisure, Culture & Tourism).

Since last May I am the Chairman of the Council which, by any other name, is the Mayor of Thanet. As such, and as the Queen's Representative, I work outside of the usual politics. Should a Cabinet decision go before Full Council I would again take no part in the debate as my role is to run the meeting as an impartial Chairman.

I am sorry for the widely held confusion. I do wish, when TDC was created in 1973 that the Council had opted for the title Mayor, rather than Chairman of the Council as it remains confusing.

I do have my own views re the MFC situation but it would not be appropriate for me to comment as I hope you now understand.

Best wishes and thanks again for taking the trouble to write.

Yours

Cllr Jeff Kirkpatrick

Chairman of the Council

It does sound like some councillors are with us on this. Does this sound to you like it could be a two man show killing us off.Ezekiel and that Nob he has with him.Is it the finance officer? NOt sure. Are the councillors being railroaded into agreeing to these peoples final decision and in fact other decisions concerning the club. If so it could well be MAJOR foul play along the way somewhere from the two guys running the council Just another thought thats all.

Sounds like both these councillors, especially the chairman are on our side, reading between the lines.Next below.

Reply much appreciated Mr. Kirkpatrick

Gota reply from one of my e.mails from a councillor:

Dear ....

May I say, that coming from Eastcliff in Ramsgate and from the "wrong" political group I have not been closely involved in negotiations between the club and the Council.

I do however think it is tragic that the situation has been allowed to deteriate to its present state. The present management appear to have been greedy and over ambitious in their claims and seem to be demanding heavy public subsidy for what is almost entirely a commercial operation. On the other side there seems to be a total lack of imagination and good will from the Council. If it was some fancy art or music project I'm sure ways and means would be found to support it. It would seem that the best of what was Margate FC has already been lost and I'm not sure most Councillors appreciate what that was! I will support any plan that offers continued football in Margate with proper community involvement and facilities.

Yours

Cllr David Green

May be the wrong political group but it says a lot. Thank you Mr. Green

Lets target those cabinet members with our pleas. E.mail, phone them if need be. Bombard them until they realise what we are about to lose. What the council are about to lose. Do it TODAY!.

Go to thanet council web site , click on "your council", then click "councillors".Then take your pick. Lets give it all we have and bombard them with e.mails stating our case. Do it now.!

I think you are reading far too much into Mr Kirkpatrick's e-mail. As for Mr Green, he belongs to another party so, obviously, he would be critical. However, it is good to see councillors responding to messages.

Firstly Kilpatricks remarks seem to me to be having a pop at the council His own buddies. Secondly below you wil see a reply from a coward.

Dear ...

While this issue is, as it is, in the hands of lawyers it is a little difficult for me to intervene.

The Council`s view - and having seen the "business plan" it is a view that I have to share - is that, sadly, the club has not yet delivered a package that would pass due diligence.

That is hard for the players and their loyal supporters, I know, and equally hard for those of us - which certainly includes the Leader of the Council and myself - who would like to see MFC thrive and prosper.

I`d like to think that there is still a way forward but the phrase "Last Chance Saloon" springs to mind.

Yours sincerely,

Roger Gale, MP

North Thanet.

Thanks anyway to him for replying..not!

Now that does worry me, but not surprise me.

Surprised how he has got sight of business plan, but he should have no axe to grind;and inclined to believe him about his conclusion.

As far as i am aware no supporters have seen and/or analysed the financial viability so we cannot comment;but it always worried me.

In fairness councillors are intelligent people

A reasonably independent view i would suggest

I know that now is not the time for blame, but applying pressure in the right places. With that in mind, why does it appear to me as an outsider (I'm not a Margate fan) that those who are running the football club are making a mess of this entire application? In one of the responses above, there is the line: 'The present management appear to have been greedy and over ambitious in their claims and seem to be demanding heavy public subsidy for what is almost entirely a commercial operation.' Councils have to carry out due diligence tests as well, and as far as I can see, I'd say that those running the club are not doing this properly. That said, I hope you get through your difficulties, I really do. It's just that it isn't a case of club good, council bad. It very, very rarely is.
