best ever

Game - Darlington, because Hornchurch suddenly became more than just a place on the map.

Goal - TM at Arlesey - if you were there, you already know why. If you were not, then the video only tells half the story - the ground simply erupted.

Player - Danny Shipp and Ziggy - can't choose between the two, but they never stop trying. And Shipp's 96th equaliser against Bognor, and his free kick goal at Eastbourne were both first class.

Actually I still think this one is the best goal I've ever seen scored by a Hornchurch player

As for best game (perhaps I should say memorable) I'll name a few. v Grays in 1985 when we beat them to win the only 1st team trophy I've seen us win i.e. the Essex Thamesside Trophy, Wycombe Wanderers in the AC Delco cup (we took them to extra time and nearly nicked it), Berkhamsted at home a couple of seasons ago, Paulton Rovers (not for the game but for the significance of the win), Darlington, Tranmere, Gravesend, and of course, Arlesey.

Best players, well we've had some terrific players wearing the shirt for the last few seasons but some players who stick in my mind from my early days at the club are the likes of Garry Harrold, Andy Weddell, Del Pedder, Peter Hickey, Peter Goddard (not what you would call a skilfull player, but he played for the club for donkeys years, would get booked virtually every other game when getting booked was more of an achievement than it is now, but was as quiet as a mouse in the bar after the game), Nicky Bissett, Alan Brett, Steve Porter, Brian Weekes, Terry Sorenson, Frank Peterson....I could go on for ever and I'm sure there'll be many more.

Great servants all those players mentioned. Have to mention Gary Higgins for the wonderful commentaries he gave whilst on the pitch, John Kerslake (best right hand in football), Sean O'Dea, could kick the ball higher than anyone I know, and yes Gary Harrold guaranteed to smash you and the attackers when he was going for the ball.

Yeh two great knocks

But can you name the two players who laid the balls off for Wolffy and Rizzo?

My favourite is Wolffy's, seem to remember I sponsored him that season.

Favourite all time game for sheer quality

Met Police first half about 3 years ago 4-0 up at half time, pitch like a carpet and Jonesy talking to me the whole of the second half describing how he was gonna score, and of course he was right !

Another favourite, the Berko game when we got promoted, never forget the dentist's chair

Crippsy, Danny Cowley and Taff drenched me.

Also the Berko away FA Vase when we gave the mighty Berko a terrible fright until 12 minutes from the end. They went on to reach the final at Villa Park but "Feed the Wolff and he will score" echoed around Hertfordshire.

Then there was the Isle of Wight, Cowes, most of you by now know what was then a closely guarded secret but a great day out when Yours Truly and Johnny Lowe reached nearly a score.

Our St Lucian International was credited with the goal but......

Then there was the first Arlesey visit and the "So nearly" league win at Great Wakering when we failed to win the league by about 6 inches!

I could go on all night, but great memories not forgettin Johnny Lawrence's 5 Cup and 1 League wins in 5 years, great stuff John and a big thanks to Paul and Alan, blimey mate who is bigger you or the Great Dane?

The Reserves winning the Fred Budden trophy against all odds.

Best ever? Yep definitely Tranmere, well we did beat them didn't we?
