What albums should I buy?

Recommended Posts

Most of my stuff from pre-76 is early heavy rock: Led Zep, Deep Purple, Black Sabbatch etc. Other good albums that i return to on a regular basis are:

Ogden's Nut Gone Flake - Small Faces

Axis, Bold as Love - Jimi Hendrix

Kick out the Jam - MC5

Their Satanic Majesties Request - Rolling Stones

The Village Green Preservation Society - The Kinks

The Velvet Underground - Velvet Underground (the one with What Goes On)

These are all pretty mainstream though, so you probably have 'em. I can highly recommend Floatin' Anarchy by Planet Gong - it was made in 77, but is close enough to 1976!! :-)

Gong are one of the few bands that make music that scare me. I've listened to various Gong albums whilst in various "conditions" and I can only really handle the Planet Gong stuff. Albums like The Flying Teapot and Angel Egg are all a bit much for me (What's all that "Have a cup of tea, have another one" all about?). The Planet Gong album is a live recording, and even though the space cadgets will like it, it does have a more "down-to-earth" feel to it. Especially tracks like Opium for the People.

I like Lynyrd Skynyrd, especially Free Bird :-)

Gong Live (or any other of their's)..

Zealster, it's one of those albums where we are going to get some scrupmy together, sit down, start to analyse it, then get pissed, phone people up, sing to them, ..., get my drift.

This one really needs to have bong on the go, but I think we'll do with the cider. (or as Zag says, a cup of tea.)

Albums that I keep returning to (off the top of my head) and in no particular order are:

Court and Spark - Joni Mitchell

Twice Round The Houses - Jonathan Kelly

Tea For The Tillerman - Cat Stevens

Modern Times - Al Stewart

Odessey and Oracle - Zombies

Rubber Soul - The Beatles

Hunky Dory - David Bowie

Idea - The Bee Gees

Buffalo Springfield (Again) - Buffalo Springfield

Ah memories last longer than dreams.............

Last time that happened I ended up with one of you guys playing a guitar solo down the phone!!!

I do seem to remember Zeal phoning me up one Saturday night and playing Oasis songs down the phone!!

Got this DVD from Amazon this morning too! Should be worth a bit of Zeal action!

I reckon Norah Jones would be my fantasy wife actually. Can picture me and her sitting outside our ranch in Southern USA somewhere, both strumming acoustic guitars, and singing folk and country standards, before making love in the tall grass that grows wildly in our acres of land.

Or maybe in a log cabin in a cold country somewhere, writing music in front of the log fire, before making love on the silky giraffe-skin rug that decorates the huge front room.

Man, she'd love a bit of the Zeal.

Is that the Zombies album with Time Of The Season on it?

Think I'll go for the Al Stewart one! Isn't he the guy from Home And Away!?

Year Of The Cat, right?

1. Correct - contains the lines

Who's your daddy ?
Is he rich like me ?
