Public Meeting 19th Jan

Recommended Posts

Just got word from a good source that a public meeting has is to be held at "Queens Hall" Winter Gardens on the 19th January,at 7.p.m.

Ezekiel WILL be in attendance for you to question plus the finance director.

Roy Ovenden will be Chairing the meeting with leaflets given out on Thursday night concerning this.

Have phoned Roy and he confirms all this.

Word is that the deal will be thrown out on Wednesday but as far as that goes I would hold fire. The rest has been confirmed.

All being set up by Roy,and before you slag him off believe me he IS a margate f.c. fan and cares about the club as much as we do.Thats a fact.

The Hall, apparently has already been booked and have Roys permission to advertise this meeting.

Be there Thursday night and pick up a leaflet about this public meeting.

I have spoken today to Roy,I dont really know him, but he comes across as very genuine with nothing but a desire to get to the bottom of all this.He cares about Margate passionately but every one seems to want to slag him off .I reckon its because he could find out the truth which of course will hurt some people!!! On the question of this demonstration, what I would like to know is exactly what is the demonstration about. The council have always said they are committed to Margate FC returning to Hartsdown as quick as possible. They have not turned down plans for the stadium, indeed that has got full planning permission, has had for some time. Now if you are planning a demonstration against the council for being very wary and cautious about plans for doubtful commercial projects proposed by a little known company whose main man is someone not many of us in the area has heard of before then that is different. They are probably a reputable company, with an honest hard working gentleman but I dont think us mere supporters should get involved in any dispute he or they may have with the council, because that is how it is.We can have no grounds for having a go at the council for not supporting the football stadium. The fault lies with the club, what they should have done is do what Ramgate propose to do .Upgrade bit by bit,as mentioned elsewhere,no plans for, everything under the sun, just football stadia.Grants are available any financial man worth his salt could have sussed them out for Margate.

apologies if wrong and misunderstood!!

and am still trying to arrange to get there for the protest even if i'm late!!

I'm a bit confused. Is it the Council calling the meeting? If so, is this not a bit pre-emptive considering a decision is allegedly not made yet? If it is not the council, is it MISA or the club? If it were them would they have not posted it here?

Can someone who knows explain who Roy is and what his involvement with the club or council or whatever is?

What is going on? Is it an effort to halt the momentum of the demonstration?

To anonymous above. As mentioned I spoke to Roy too and its obvious you were told what I was told. I have all the time in the world for Roy and have been a friend for many years but what he is saying dosen't add up. He says that he has seen the plans (Yes,thats what I meant)and they dont stand up. But I take this lightly as that may well be ALL that the council has shown him. Stop defending the council with your so-called sensible talk. Stop being sucked in.

IF and I say IF that be the case that the plans that were shown were the complete set and that they were not up to scratch then if the council really really wanted to help this club and keep a football team as they say they do then why before now haven't they loaned the club, given the club enough to get the ground up to scratch. WHY OH WHY haven't they if they are sincere. That would have entailed less money than is being banded around now for the entire project. It would not have broke the councils budget because they spend millions more on other ventures. We have every right to demonstrate against the council for NOT actually putting their money where their mouths are. That alone should be a major factor for turning up Thursday. Dont forget its a Demo against them also for their poor management-ship. Stop being "sensible" and "gullible".

If you wish not to attend, if you wish to give up,if you wish to believe ALL that you are told then you have that right(a-[censored]- nonymous).

You have no name behind an anon tag and therefore have something to hide so because of that failure I think your opinion dosen't weigh a lot to the fight. If you wish to try and get this called off on Thursday then think again.

You give up, if you wish or even if you are actually a margate fan, but allow the true supporter to carry on the fight to the bitter end, whichever way it goes.

Roy was once a butcher, got into politics and became Mayor of Margate.I believe he is now not in politics. Has followed the "gate" forever and genuinly wants what we want, to get our club back home and to continue to exist.

He also wants to know the same answers as we want to know.He is another one of US, trying with all his heart to keep this club moving and to prevent its collapse. He wants to know a lot of answers just like us we do.

As a Community Charge payer (and a football fan, watching Margate on many occasions), I do not accept that the Council should put any of my money (or any other tax payer) into funding a football stadium. The money is there to be spent on (wider) public services that will benefit all.

Whilst a football club is very desirable, despite the hype only a very small percentage of people chose to go to football. If you take the number of tax payers in Thanet and the number attending Margate matches the figure is VERY low.

I happen to also like snooker, but I don't see the Council opening many Council run and funded snooker halls. Each to their own.

Having said all this, I really do hope the Council give the go ahead and Margate survive to fight another day.

Think its Roy who has got this public meeting up and going, not the council. Ezekiel has been invited and has agreed to attend. But refuses to be at same meeting as KP. Although other directors are also being invited. We need a solicitor acting for the club, the developer too at the least to be in attendance, to answer questions.

I argued that point with Roy.It is really only worthwhile if both people who are heading the fight appear to confirm or deny the others decisions etc.Dosent matter and shouldnt matter about the status of KP. Because of Ezekiels refusal on this it makes me think he is also hiding something and is scared to say what he feels like saying with KP in attendance. I hope KP turns up anyway. Now that would be worth going for!

With the possible repossession of Margate F.C. by Thanet District Council, to be voted on Thursday at the cabinet meeting I would suggest that we make our presence felt in the chamber as well. We will be able to assess who votes for and against.

I have also been informed that the club are thinking of holding their own press conference to put forward their case.

Since when has the club asked the council for money??? All money spent on this issue by the council is as a direct result of the council(Sandy) fannying around picking up on any point (one at a time by the looks to draw the matter out).

Ezekiel will not attend a meeting with Keith as he has not got the guts to face him and repeat comments against the plans (he is using his official position as a shield - bit like MPs in the House of Commons)

When it comes to the next elections and IF Ezekiel has the gall to stand again I will ensure a leaflet is publish and distributed to the ward he stands in detailing the cost to local ratepayers that he has caused.

Ezekiel value for money?? Don't think so.

(And before you ask I am a paid up member of the Tory party)

First of all I will say that I have a lot of respect for Roy. He helped keep the club alive in the dark days of the 1980s.

You may recall in September 2003 he went to the Thanet Extra and asked what the hell is going on with the ground. At the time JP rubbished his comments. I think CK labelled him as a "destructive element". Of course, he was proved right and JP was gone within a couple of months.

However, it is hardly a secret that he and the current heirarchy at MFC have never been bessie mates. I do not believe he would be the best chair for this meeting and there really does need to be someone from the club or the developers to put their side of the story. That said, I will be attending.
