Full Time or Part Time?

Staying-up

Recommended Posts

Sorry to bring up this old chestnut again but its quite clear if we are going to hold our own in this League we will have to go Full time.

I know Aldershot did very well last season being part time but even they have now had to go Full Time.

We just to be coming across too many teams who are fitter and stronger than us. It is particularly showing in the 2nd half of games with us conceding most of our goals then.

i dont think we can go full time for about 2 yrs,if what i know is correct alot of players are signed on part time contracts and you have to get them all on full time contracts,so you have to wait for some to expire.Players like Sterling if i remember rightly he left Aldershot because he didnt want to go full time, but you can't have half the squad training full time and the other half part time..Ive heard it could be 2 seasons before that happens..

Yep - think you are correct in Sterling not wanting to stay at the Shots because of them going full time.

I thought Woking were a mix of full and part time - so I don't know how they stand on the contracts issue.

It is certainly starting to tell with the full time clubs generally filling most of the places in the top of this league. Exeter after a slow start have really moved up the league. Spoke to a Shots fan at the beginning of the season and he seemed to feel that the real difference from full time training was that first touch. I suppose full time players also have time and dedicated staff to look after their injuries - rather than scurrying up scaffolding on a Monday morning.

I think we would need to be a full time club to get anywhere in this league and play the style of football that we all appreciate. Unfortunately, I don't feel we are a big enough club and don't have the facilities.

Ultimately the decision is Jeff Kings because he would end up subsidising the costs somehow as the club wouldn't be able to afford it.

you can understand no point going full time this season the fiancial risks of going straight back down would hurt, although fans dont want to hear it this season is a right off all we have to do is stay up and learn..If we ever got promoted we would go straight back down...I do think the slowly slowly approach is the way foward,

We can not go full time until we have the following in place.

1. New ground maybe off the Island or at least in a more accesible place so we can have a larger fan base.

2. Enough fans to pay the wages/sponsors etc.

3. Established ourselves as a Conference side.

4. Players that are good enough and willing to give up the day job to go full time.
