Our "new" defence.

Clearly things were not well in the centre ofour defence of Wilko, Porter, Mooro,Shearer. For whatever reasons, they simply did not 'click this year, consequently cost us a lot of unneccary goals and lost games.

Drastic measures WERE needed, and it is to Andy's credit he has made changes before it was too late.

Although it is still early days, the signs are that Pullen, Pops, Mac and Buncey have a good deal more dependabilty than the previous defence.

I still think we need to address our lack of 20 goal a season striker, is now apparent that Roy is not quite that man, nor is Manny or Pinns, fine players that they are.

I have full confidence that now that funds have been freed up by the departures of Ade, Mooro, Shearer,Lovell and even Harrhy? a new striker casn be affored.

Would like to add that Wilko and Porter still havevery big parts to play going forward aswell - as although Pullen is excellent, remember that Wilko is also very very good at this level. Great for competition. Hopefully we can get a good goalscorer in.

I believe it's definitely no coincidence that our two clean sheets in a row have come along with the introduction of Bunce at the back. Ok, one was against a poor (from what it sounds) Leigh side, but I thought he was excellent against Crawley.

 

On the subject of the goalscorer, lots of teams have that same problem and they all say 'all we need is that 20 goal a season man.' Unfortunately they are hard to come by and especially at this level as part-timers. I did think Essendoah might be that man at first but he seems to have just lost the knack of putting the ball in the net regularly this season. However, looking back on his previous goal scoring record at other clubs it seems we could of expected it to happen some time or another.

dj campbell, a bit lightweight, but get him round to wilkos for dinner and he will soon pork up a bit.

Already played for Stevenage in the Conference and his scoring record was, at best, average - 3 goals in 30 games.

yeah but things mught be different now. a players past does not always do him justice in the present if you know what i mean.

Because Essandoh isnt scoring as many as last season everyone seems to think he isnt the elusive 20 goal striker but he still could be.

Roy is very good in the air but he needs a decent service, if we put enough decent crosses in Roy will knock them in.

Some people on this site have suggested that he is a one trick pony and that may not be far from the truth but he is bloody good at that trick and we should play to his strengths.
