This was given out at the game as 251.

There is no doubt, as the other 39 people can attest, that the number is a clear lie.

An extremely generous estimate was thought to be 150 people.

I doubt if you included the players and staff it would have been 251.

Bloody cold too, wasn't too impressed with the hail shower after 20 minutes, amusing to see angered Canvey fans in the services reckoning it could have been 8-0 to Morecambe, one old bloke said "This league is quite hard".

To be fair, as I believe I mentioned yesterday, having a small attendance in such a cavernous ground by non-league standards does tend to make the attendance seem smaller than it really is. Still, even then 251 seemed a lot.

 

The crowd size at Leigh is a reminder of Ryman-size attendances, although at least those were often in grounds which only had a capacity of a couple of thousand anyway.

The Centurions are in the top division of rugby league now, aren't they? That probably explains it. Not that I'm an expert in rugby matters or anything...
