Accrington game & the penalty

Having seen the clip on Conference football.tv and re-run it , even at slow speed, its impossible to assess whether Drury was or wasnt fouled - he certainly went flying over the challenge, and I could quite see why the ref gave the penalty.

 

Just shows really, how you will always get disagreements over decisions in football.

To me it looks like the Accy Defender clearly won the ball? Thats my opinion anyway. I can see why many players came running over to the ref. If that was given against us I would definately have been annoyed!

The player may have got a touch on the ball, but from what I can remember he seemed to take more of the player than he did the ball, and so the penalty was justified.

I thought the rule stated if you get the ball and then the player then it isn't a foul?

To be honest, it doesn't matter how many times you watch it - with Pinnock obscuring our view, you can't see the challenge clearly enough to decide either way.

From what I recall, if you take more of the player than you do of the ball, its a penalty. Also, if I remember rightly, he was travelling towards the goal and not away from it. If he'd been going towards the corner flag, it wouldn't have been given.

Because the player was heading away from goal? Jukebox wasn't, so it was an obvious penalty.

What difference does that make...if he was fouled in the area its a penalty whatever direction he was going.

Some ref's might not see it that way. At some point, a ref won't have given a penalty, and his excuse will be that the player was headed away from goal.

Complete nonsense!!!! Either it's a foul or it isn't.

 

You are confusing the position regarding whether or not the offending player should be sent off, for stopping a clear goalscoring opportunity.

Surely if its a foul it's a penalty, regardless of the players direction.

Let's get back to the subject, the Penalty against Accrington, and yes it was a foul, regardless of whether he got a touch on the ball or not, and it was given.

 

From what I saw of the tackle, the defender seemed to take out more of Drury than he did of the ball.

WE'VE ESTABLISHED I THINK FLEETBOY, THAT HE WENT THROUGH DRURY TO GET THE TOUCH ON THE BALL, therefore, by the process of elimiation, he took the PLAYER out first, touching the ball second.
