DEMONSRATIONS AGAINST WHOM??

Guest

Recommended Posts

Much as I admire all your effort and determination in getting your feelings across to the council, are you absolutely sure it is the council you should be demonsrating against? Non of us mere supporters have seen the actual content or make up of the project plan, business plan,or financial viability of the whole scheme All professional and legal people from both sides will have done.If the council are not happy with what has been presented then there is not a lot we can do about it .It is called the legal process, and legally I am sure they have acted correctly. At no time have they dismissed the plans completely, just asked for clarification of certain points. Now what is happening ,the Club, and or partners are threatening the council, now you guys are talking about demonstrations being held to coincide with council meetings which are nothing at all to do with football.Gentlemen you could just make things worse. Unfortunately word has got round about the unpleasant incident at Welling involving CK,which was no doubt started by a supporter,it cant be proved supporting who,but people are in no doubt who reacted. What we do not need now is a group of supporters disrupting council business. I am not suggesting for one moment problems will arise, every one has the right to demonstrate, and with Cookie involved everything will be done correctley. But as has been shown in the past if when the planned demonstration takes place,if favourable news for us has not been forthcoming from the council people could get carried away. Please just be careful!!!!

Its a demonstration against the council because even if as you say the council aren't to blame(doubt that very much) then they should know that we really care and that if THEY really cared, as they say they do, then why havent they been more helpful and actually worked with the club as they said they would, to get a satisfactory end to this. You tell me where they have actualy gone out of there way to help. Am not talking about the delays, thats a tactic they are working on to have us give in. The developers must be thinking how much more time and expense the council will weedle out of them. Yes,these developers may call it a day who knows but the reality of that happening is increasing with every delay.. The above post sounds very much like a council employee of some standing trying to avert bad publicity.

No I dont know the facts that go on behind the doors but other facts are that the council havent worked with the club to get a satisfactory end to this.. They could and should have tried more. Thats worth a demo in my book alone. It is the council after all, no matter what the reason, who are holding us back. We are the ones who are wanting to go forward. After all this time, all this expense, do you really really think things havent been covered. Of course they have. Now the council have run out of delay excuses they start by having us going back to square one with their demands.

If the majority of people do not want this demo then I will back off but if they do then I'm in it all the way and gladly. I for one am not going to be fooled by the above post or its anon posting. Some very influential people come on here in disguise.

As for disrupting meetings that isn't on the agenda and will not happen. We have to get to the people of thanet too you know. They should know of our struggle hence my suggestion of a daytime demo.

P.S. I have already given my word in writing, to the authorities, that any future demo will be a troublefree one and I would hope those that attend abide by my word. Thats a request by the way. A demo in this way would be better than a mean and nasty one.

I am responsible for the above post, Cookie.Thank you for replying in a most encouraging well explained way.I am nothing at all to do with the council, I am honestly not. Never have been.I have lived in Margate all my life and supported THE GATE for about forty five years.I was not being pessimistic in my posting.Everything that has happened has broke my heart as indeed it has every fans.I am just fearful of upsetting the council or making them more antagonistic towards us thats all. You did ask for peoples views on a demonstration in your original posting. These are mine, thats all.I wish you well in your plans I really do!! As I say I am nothing to do with the council, nor anyone else for that matter.except I do know some one in an unprofessional way who is high up in the club. For that reason alone I would rather not name names ,myself included ,for the time being. But I do know that it is not only the council who are at fault.

Sorry, would like to respect you but if you dont register and come on as an annon then that respect cant be forthcoming from me. No name no respect. Are you that important that we cant get you to sign in.

However thank you for your comments .. Have also taken on board your comments as you rightly said I asked for others views. Just hate it when people dont really see whats happening under their noses. We will just have to agree to disagree. As for the club being at fault ,I agree they may have had a hand in it in the past. but not at this stage they haven't.

Just to add a minor point but what is Thanet Councils track record of supporting the club??

They were there in force for the cameras when we played Fulham in 1997. Cheering us on or milking publicity??

They did stop the merger of Ramsgate with Margate when Ramsgate CAME to us to discuss the selling of Southwood and redevelopment of Hartsdown, with the then Council leader saying "Ramsgate must never die"

They did offer us great support on the proviso we changed our name to Thanet Utd. The name change DID cost us supporters, financial backers, and a first team we could not afford to keep due to lost revenue. Never mind the Council were good to their word were they not?? No, they back peddled as fast then as they have now although at least they were decent enough then to admit they could not and would not deliver the promises made by the then Recreations Officer of Thanet Council.

When will this bunch of clowns actually state what they see as the future of Hartsdown Park.

Is it

a)Land to be given over to Thanet LeisureForce for the sports facilities their website CONTINUOUSLY misquotes.

b)Land to be left as open space whilst Margate and Ramsgate merge and play under the name of Thanet again elsewhere on the island.

c)Land used for a new road leading to Westwood and the only shops left in Thanet.(Just wait for the first charity shop to open near Asda)

d)Land for a great mound to to built so the people of Thanet can watch the Turner Contemporary Art Centre, as the never used, empty shell costing £31 million plus, slowly sinks into the mud of the harbour and remains an eyesore similar to what was left of the jetty after the 1977 storms.

Don't think I will wait to find out the decision but trust that one day my yet unborn grandchildren may get a straight answer to the plans.

What I don't understand is, if the evil Tories are at fault for all this, why aren't the Labour group kicking up a stink? Surely it would be a great chance to score political points? Has anyone tried getting in touch with them?

Because the council have acted quite correctly thats all .Not to anyones liking but totally correct, Labour know this so no legal fault can be picked on .By the way I am a Gate fan always have been , always will be .But I see things realistically.

Ezekiel was supposed to have said, concerning the night flights at Manston, and I quote"If people object, why did they move under the flight path"

He has passed that so why is there any difference with that to that of the residents living local to the ground at Hartsdown.

Didn't hear him say similar to them!

Sorry Mr Cook! Just a thought!!

I think that a "show of support" sounds less "aggressive".

"Demonstration" immeadiately conjures up the shouting-abuse-and-placard-waving-picture that is often seen as "unfriendly". One thing you don't want is to upset the members before they make any decsions!!
