Tsunami collection

Recommended Posts

So when you were observing this 3 minute silence, were you contemplating all the ways that you could help the families of the dead & how you could help the survivors?

Or were you like most of the modern hypocrites and looking at your watch so that you could tell when it was over asap?

A mark of respect? Don't make me laugh. I'm sure some homeless Thai with nothing or a Brit with their family totally wiped out will be really happy that you showed a mark of respect.

These people will need help for years to come, not our silences.

The problem is not with the traditional one minute silence as a mark of respect but that following the WTC attack some idiot suggested a two minute silence.

Now after the Tsunami an even bigger idiot suggests a three minute silence after whatever the next major disaster is there will be someone suggesting a four minute silence, the only way to stop our children having a 90 minute silence for a kitten falling down a well in 2018 is to stand up now and insist that nobody observes more than one minutes silence for any reason. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />

As i said FleetFanatic.......you have to learn to respect the living before the dead...and as a lot of posts prove.........not many people respect anyone except themselves!

As i was not at a match i wasn't looking at my watch.........but sat in silence when the live Match was on the box!

I agree though that 3 minutes was stupid, one would have been enough!

I think that your claim about people not respecting anybody but themselves is incorrect.

The good thing about the British is that in times of tragedy, the majority of people offer their help however they can. I can think of over 60 million reasons that prove it - most people would rather pay money to help the living survive than spend time in silence doing nothing to help the dead. The unselfish generousity of the masses in the UK since Boxing Day has been overwhelming. Can't say that we've heard much about the folk of the USA donating too much out of their own pockets.

Just how much cash has the so called USA government coughed up compared to the money spent flattening Iraq and causing more problems than they solved?

Why do these silences always take place at football matches? What is so different about football supporters that we are normally expected to take part in our own one before a match? Were there many before any of our country's other sporting events?

So far I recall several football matches observing one, the crowds at the new year celebrations observing one & then the national 3 minute one. I'm not uncaring, I just think it's a bit much! Surely one round of silence is quite enough 'showing respect'?

If it's any consolation, I observed the 3 minute one - I was asleep.
