A Settled Team

I think we are getting close to a settled defence, and also a settled team.

I believe the team should be:

Pullen

Protheroe Mcarthy Buncey Skinner

Drury Saunders Mckimm Surey

Essandoh McAllistar

This is not forgetting players like Manny, Pinno, Mooreo, Moussa. But i do believe this is our strongest team at the moment.

I was very impressed with Nathan Bunce today, and I believe him and McCarthy could work. Only time will tell.

Out of interest, is it spelt 'Harrhy' or 'Hurrhy'? The programme seems to think the latter, but given the usual standard of spelling in there, I'm not exactly taking that as the right answer.

Perhaps he has been sent back? If so how are we suppose to know, with no official website? But leave it at that, we won't bother talking about the website again.

I agree McAllister has been very good, especially in terms of his commitment. However, I don't think anything beats a fully fit pairing of Roy & Manny up front.

Bunce was great. Encouraging those around him all the time, no negative stuff & played as well as he talked, too.

Go along with that but I would try McAllister and Harrhy up front. Nothing ventured and all that..

Our players are not reading or anticipating the game well by not picking up Roy's knock down's/on's etc.. and the continuous long ball to Roy has got to stop with more variation of attack.

I don't think any combination of Roy, Manny & Pinno is going to work until they do this and crosses into the box are better delivered. Shame Walshe isn't still with us.

Would go along with that too, but maybe swap Gledhill and Protheroe.

Yes, I think Gledhill is a good player, but I think Protheroe offers more going forward. I think him and Moussa work well. When Moussa goes forward and can't get any further, Prothers is always there to back him up and put in a good ball.

However, it could of course also be said that Roy's lay-offs aren't always accurate enough - it's a bit of a double-edged sword.

Popovic. I'm not to sure about him at the moment. I'll have to see him play a few more times before I reach a verdict.

From what I have seen so far, the only weakness in his game is trying to do to much, for example in the Accy game I think he won the ball, then flicked the ball over the attackers head. Thats great but then he got tackled. Not so great. Just keep it simple!

Not taking anything away from him though, just one of his weakness in my opinion.

Nathan Bunce seemed very assured at the back against Crawley, and I think Popovic benefitted from his presence there.Let`s stick with these two for now and see how they develop as a partnership. We`ve had too many mix`n`match pairs at the back this season,so stability would be nice for a while.Bunce and Pops can complement each other, whereas McCarthy and Bunce together would be a bit slow,in my opinion.Porter seems to be our Jamie Redknapp, and don`t seem to like too much work(although he is a fireman, so I suppose that figures).

Agree there, JC, I always feel that Manny, Pinns ans letterly McAllister play too far away from Roy, and are therefore unable to use his lay offs as they give space for defenders to intercept his lay off, which can be a bit loose at times.

The best pairings up front hunt as a pair - look at Portway/Cotter, Cotts was seldom more than 15 - 20 yards off Portway and they were able to feed off each other.

Whilst I think the defence is finally getting sorted, and has a more settled look with Pullen McCarthy, Pops and Buncey looking a solid spine, we do need to address our lack of a quality finisher.

None of our contract strikers have set the world of fire this season, so perhaps as FF has mentioned, the time has come to blood Harrhy as a target man. It doesn't really matter that he is young and inexperienced, he clearly has an eye for goal, which McAllister has (in the past.
With the money saved from Ade's salary, perhaps there is financial room to sign another striker.

For Leigh I would perhaps go for a lineup like this:

Pullen
Prothers Bunce Pops Skins
Moussa Macca Jay Dukebox
MacAllister Harrhy

No, I haven't Jimmy, as my job and family commitments prevent me from watching reserve games.

My point is that perhaps he should be paired up with McAllister to see if that combination works.

All others

Roy/Manny

Roy/Pinns

Roy/Mac

Pinns/Manny

Manny/Mac

have all been unspectacular and have certainly not look like killing teams like we did at the end of last season and the start of this term.
