Leyton 0 Billericay 6

Penalty scored by Leon Hunter, Leyton down to 10 men. Penalty scored by Leon Hunter, Leyton down to 9 men. Elder came on for Cus and scored 2 in 2 minutes. Then a well deserved goal from Ross. Finished off by Matt Game who came on for Forbes. Comprehensive victory. Their goalie was Leyton's best player and saved 2 certain goals. What a great start to the year.

Early doors, Cuz clean through pulled back by slowpoke defender, ref decides inside area, awards penalty and sends slowpoke off. Billericay in control, but playing into howling gale. Diets obviously starting tomorrow as burger bar runs out of everything.

Straight after half time Leyton defender thinks he's the keeper and "saves" shot from Trotty following corner. defender sent off and Hunter gets second pen (stat: Hunter also scored a pen last new years day, at Hayes). Leyton keeper turns into super man, pulling off some top saves from Cuz, Rossy and Forbes.

Nathan Elder comes off bench and grabs 2 quick goals... 1st a header from Hunter cross then chases down clearance and finishes between keepers legs. Rossy heads in Gallagher cross for #5 then Matt Game stays on feet to complete scoring.

Leyton poor in attack, didn't get a shot on goal. 2nd half Goths had time to pop behind goal and do some gardening on ancient terracing, now boarded up. Simon BTFC has restorative Guinness to remove after effects of NYE sesssion.

Another clean sheet for Goths as well! All good....

Superb performance. hunter out his two pens away well, Elders goals were both very well taken, especially the second. Touch of class. Gamo's goal was also well taken, although Leyton had oretty much given up by this point. Biggest cheer of the day was for Ross who got a well deserved goal. Delighted for him. He runs his socks off and is getting more and more reward now. Well done to all the team. Happy new year!

Hi boys, watched the game today, great show, but any ideas if they had not had 2 sent off? They never gave up right till the end, was a bit crude at times but they may have been a different proposition had they kept 11 on and kept their cool? That said great win, come on ricay..still in the blood.

Thanks to all the fans who recognised me today and said hello, made me feel really good thanks a lot. See you Tuesday!!!

Well I don't think it would have been 6-0... that said I still think that our superior fitness would have shown in the second half when they were playing into a gale on a heavy pitch.

Of course if they hadn't comitted the offences that got the 2 sent off then Cuz would have been clean through with a shot on goal and Trotty's shot might have gone in....

My turn to be picky. The first penalty, it was the ref who decided it was outside the area until he consulted the "assistant" ref. In my book, the decision to where it was and who got sent off was with him. The ref just endorsed it by acting (correctly) on the advise of his "assistant" who was better placed. For once the system worked for us...

Not a bad performance overall. Leyton battled away but didn't really offer much in the way of competition up front. When the second bloke got sent off, I got the impression they had given up, what with the ridiculous back passes to the keeper, the scudded goal kicks, the awfull passing and would only be a matter of time that we would get a third...15 minutes later, we had 6...

There were periods when we were going to match 'em scudded kick for scudded kick but as we all heard Matt Jones cry from the touch line "Pass!!! Pass!!! Pass!!!" and the boys settled into that lovely one touch football they are getting into the habit of playing.

Difficult to name a man of the match...but I will go for Leon Hunter who again, created, tackled and kept his cool when taking the penalties.

Goal of the match...for me, it's a toss up between Nathan's second and Matty Game's goal. Both coolly taken, the former going through the keepers legs, I believe.

Now for the comedy moments around the day...For a club that has boasted a cash injection, their support was...er...down to one bloke behind our goal, giving Goth a headache. The burger bar...I recorded 25 minutes before I got served...Some up to 35 minutes!!! The burgers were okay but not worth waiting that time for but after 10 minutes, you just got bloody minded and had to stick it out. At the bar after the game was no better as everyone had buggered off and left one bar person to serve everyone...Unbelievable!!! The obviously don't get a big crowd at Leyton...

Had Cousins not have been brought down, on current form, he probably would have scored. It would be 1-0 to us and 11 vs 11.
Had Trott's shot not been handled on the line it would have been 2-0 to us and 11 vs 11.
As we have been fitter than every team we have faced this season and they were playing against the hurricane and driving rain in the second half I reckon we could have maybe got one or two more towards the end. Maybe they get one and that's being generous. So it finishes 3 or 4 - 1 and 11 vs 11.

Glad that's sorted out then.

Well done to our lads. This looked like a tough game beforehand and to get such a great result is outstanding. A fine team performance. My MoM is Leon. It takes bottle to get up there and take the spot kicks especially after the "kerfuffles" and gamesmanship that led to long delays before each kick. They were the crucial moments of the game and ultimately led to the easy win.

Let's keep it up!! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Loads of what if's going on here. What if the keeper got book for twice arguing with the ref when he gave both pens? He'd have been sent off on the second and the score would've been in double figures.

As it was he wasn't and pulled off three class saves.

"If" is a short word that induces long arguements. The facts are, they had two men sent off and we won 6 zip, claimed three points and have the best goal average in the league. Finish.

With tounge firmly in cheek, I'd like to take the time that, although I predicted a 5 - 0 scoreline, I was close. Closer than all of ya!!!

Folkstone? As I'm on a roll here, I'll hedge my bets and go for a 5 - 0 win again.

Job done! You have to beat what is in front of you be that nine or eleven players and we did just that, could have been more but for the keeper who made some great saves.

At the end though it looked like we were going to score every time we went forward.

And finally to the short bald fat loudmouth who was willing to 'take on all of you behind the goal' (I did not include the expletives). Did you enjoy the game because we did?

Lets be fair they were lucky to get nil! Liked the comment about the one supporter, I gave him credit he never stopped shouting at their players to keep going.

It's sad though as someone said, cash injection but what is the game all about, to me without fans its nothing. We get more over the Abbey than they get, how many do you reckon were there from Leyton take away the Ricay fans?

Superior passing ability eventually ran them ragged and without the aid of thier keeper it could have been double figures. Both sendings off were right and for once we had a ref that went to consult his lino. I'm currently still in the queue for a burger.

The passing was excellent yesterday, i know its easier when your playing against 10 or 9, but they exploited the space really well. We look like a team that can take advantage of these situations now. Agree about the support too, was great to hear so much encouragement. I really think it helps the boys when they make a mistake and hear clapping and "unlucky, keep working", instead of groans etc.

Regarding the refs consulting the lino for the first penalty,I was standing with other Ricay supporters at the side of the pitch where the foul happened and it seemed to me that the lino(who was standing right in front of us)might not have given his view to the ref without the two or three minutes of barracking from the Ricay fans. It seemed to me until then that the ref was going to give a free kick on the edge of the box and the lino was going to let him.

Ryman Premier Division

Leyton F.C. 0 v 6 Billericay Town F.C.

Saturday 1st. January 2005 KO 3.00pm

A lively start to this top of the table clash saw Town almost open the score within seconds of the start with a fine angled drive from Ross Wareham that hit the Leyton side netting. Leyton struck back immediately forcing two corners in quick succession and continued to pressure Town with another corner on nine minutes that was only just scrambled away to safety. Unfortunately the prospect of an exiting competitive match took a knock in the fourteenth minute when a straight red saw Leyton’s Paul Golby dismissed for a dubious shirt tug outside the box, that somehow earned a penalty kick. A well taken Leon Hunter spot kick gave Hasell no chance and Billericay took a very lucky 1-0 lead. Down but not out Leyton continued to battle hard throughout the half and were unlucky not to have levelled the score on 19 minutes when Gregoriou rounded the keeper well, only to see his shot hit the side netting. Town had their moments, but some stout goalkeeping from Hasell kept Leyton in the game and at the break it remained 1-0.

A positive start from the home side was abruptly halted when after just six minutes of the second half another poor decision saw Leyton reduced to nine men when Ian Bass was alleged to have handled on the line and received a straight red. Leon Hunter’s well struck penalty doubled Town’s lead and nine men Leyton now had a mountain to climb. Regardless of the overwhelming task, Leyton continued to fight back and could have so easily been back in the game had some magical runs from Williams been converted. It wasn’t to be and as the half continued Leyton’s nine men found it hard to keep pace with a strong Town side. Some breathtaking saves from Hasell continued to keep the score line respectable, but in the closing stages of the game and against mounting odds late goals from Nathan Elder (80,81). Ross Wareham (87) and Matt Gane (90) hit Leyton for six and at the whistle it was a dejected Leyton side that left the field.

Two questionable decisions on the day determined this game and put it beyond Leyton’s reach, hopefully they will be back to their best when they entertain Salisbury City at home in the league on Saturday 8th. January, KO 3.00 pm.
