I suspect Porter won't be retained after this season - for no other reason than he is too injury prone. He is a quality defender when he is fit, but that is all too infrequently.

Keeping players who are subject to niggly injuries is a bit of a financial liability,as you need to get in loan players and make fresh signings as you progress through the season(Pops, Boujadi,McCarthy) spring to mind, when we started with what we though was a sound mid defence of porter, Moore and Shearer.
