mcCarthy solid i think not,how long is bunce on loan for anyone?

He's not on loan as far as I know. Non-contract basis...? Can we stop slagging McCarthy as well...? Great welcome for the bloke to our club, isn't it? He lacks pace, but that's all I'd accuse him of. He's played league football for 15 years so he's no mug.

Him and Mccarthy at the back will surely be a very solid combination?

With absolutely no pace between them...! Hmm, not so sure I agree.
Still think we should play a sweeper though with Protheroe/Gledhill and Skinner/Lovell pushing forward more. Anchor the midfield with Macca and Jay and play Drury just off the shoulder of Pinno and Roy.

If we have five decent centre-halves at our disposal, you may as well use them. Popovic has pace and a jarring challenge on him, Bunce and McCarthy both read the game exceptionally well, Porter looked tidy and unflappable earlier in the season and Moore on his day (not too many of those recently though) is a colossus. Perm three from five.

I agree with the concerns about pace in the defence - Bunce and McCarthy don't seem to have it in abundance.

Having said that, I was impressed with Bunce today - in particular, the very impressive sliding challenge on the edge of the box in the first couple of minutes to establish his authority on the game. Unlucky with the header at the end too.

As for the suggestion of three centre-backs, I always feel this can overcrowd the defence somewhat, and it also of course means that a midfielder has to be sacrificed.

Besides, after today's clean sheet, wouldn't it be great to keep the central defence the same if possible for the Leigh game? After all, many of us have been complaining about the lack of continuity at the back at present.

what age range are you and where do you and yours stand? please?

Cant see what differnce that make to his opinion validity.

Have to say, Bunce did seem to be very proffesional in the way he played, and very commanding of the back 4. I dont think MaCarthy is as bad as fleet fan is making out, but do feel he isnt our best option.

The point I was going to make was that if he was one of the halfway line crusties, then his opinion is pony. Because as I have heard many times around that area, the old boys talk a load of old BS. Total nonsense. So much so that it is almost funny.
I have not heard, but can imagine that they could say something about mccarthy being poor, when quite clearly he is not.
And never has been for us.
And hopefully never will be.
I would be very interested to see him try to form a partenership with old bunsen as from what I have seen individually they would work well as a unit.

Come on you Reds, give us a win. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/yay.gif" alt="" />

Although I have certainly heard some bizarre opinions around the halfway line area when I have stood there in the past, it isn't really fair to say that everyone who stands there makes stupid comments.

Personally, from what I've seen of McCarthy so far, I'd say he is neither rubbish nor brilliant, but somewhere in between. I honestly feel there isn't a lot between our centre-backs overall at present - they all have their weaknesses (although Zeljko's showboating was certainly toned down yesterday).
