An honest question

Can I ask if any Margate fans are worried by the whole proposed scheme? For all of the complaints about the council's attitude, are none of you concerned that the scheme:

1) is too ambitious? Why the hotel etc when all you needed was an upgrade to your ground?

2) the financial background of the chief backer, Mr Piper?

Aren't you worried that the scheme depends on the success of non-football plans, especially given the difficulty seaside resorts have nowadays in attracting visitors?

Or does it strike you all as perfectly normal that when you just needed to make the pitch flat and put in proper seating etc to meet conference standards the plans are all about lots of extra money-making stuff? Do none of you worry that even if TDC approve the scheme it will all prove to be a white elephant and drag the football club down with it? Keith Piper's not a very successful businessman is he?

Well said!!!!! Could not have said it better.I am sure most supporters would agree with what you have said, but will not admit it. Instead they are quite happy to be lead not just down the road but on a grand mystery tour of mistruths.misleasding statements, and quite honestly deciet, being lead to believe it is all the fault of the big bad ogre,TDC while being driven by the driver.who lost directions ages ago ,KP but will still keep going even though the road ahead dissappeared a long way back!!!!!

The only reason we are still going is KP and the other directors so put a sock in it where any of them are concerned. What gives you the right to intimate bad things about KP? Is your life lived so pure that you have not had a crisis or two in it?

When JP pulled out I did not see any evidence of an orderly queue forming to take the club up and try to salvage it out of that particular mess. KP it was who went out to find an alternative solution, and in that he was sucessful.

KP's antecedents are of little interest to me, I judge by what I see of the man and I have seen nothing to criticize in all of this. I would imagine that that is also the opinion of the funders, who do appear to have all the business acumen required to complete the project, else why would they be partnering him?

Go with TDC if you want a Kent league club on a playing field. I'll stick with Margate Football Club.

Of course we are worried .I know I am. Nothing can really be taken as trustworthy from either side but the difference with the clubs words compared to those from the council is that the clubs words not only give us hope but is the only way back as I see it. The commercial aspects, though important for the future income to the club etc really dosent worry me so long as the stadium or ground is available to us. If the commercial side did fail at a later date we would still have our ground built and that,if solely left, would give us something to negotiate a new lease on/rent etc to continue with Either the fans or whoever wishes to take on the club. Without the commercial aspects we wont get the ground in this instance so though I dont give a toss really about that side of things I do realise the importance of it. Give me a ground back of any discription thats what I say but as it stands we have no choice. Unless someone wants to upgrade the ground for love we have to accept the commercial side of things. Its either that or the club dies. One leads to another and that leads to our getting back home. We HAVE to have faith in our club members. We have no other choice. One thing is for certain and for whatever reason the council are making life hard for us and thats an understatement.

Is the affecting you on the pitch. How can you go from losing 5 on the trot at the start of the season to romping the Dr Martens League, then surviving in the Conference. Being relegated on a non playing technicality and then playing badly this season, all the off field s**t and looking set for relegation. Have to say think you will get whooped at Welling given both teams form. Sad to see Dover and Margate in turmoil. All Kent clubs challenging for Conference would be great.

Up The Wings and good luck guys (after Saturday)

In reply to the first message in the thread, there is a shortage of good quality hotel accommodation in our part of Kent. The rumour was Pfizer had some kind of interest in the hotel plans.

As for the rest of the commercial stuff, we are told this is needed to pay for the building of the stadium. And, of course, football clubs cannot live on gate receipts alone these days.

I think the main obstacle lies in your second point. KP bleeds blue and white and without him there would be no club, but I think TDC would be more accommodating had someone else been behind the scheme.

There is a great deal of posturing going on at the moment and I am still optimistic about the future (off the pitch anyway!)

Well, good luck anyway but I think you would have avoided all this heartache if you'd gone for a less ambitious scheme. Now you have to resolve your problems on the pitch if recent results are anything to go by.
