A former player....

My uncles dad used to play for us in the sixties, George Smith was his name. He played under a former Arsenal manager or player. Okay so its quite possible that we have had quite a few George Smiths playing for us not an entirely uncommen name is it but I can't find anything on him on the web, can anyone recall him playing for us?

The Fleet's Golden Jubilee Year Book (a goldmine of old Fleet statistics) lists a Lionel Smith (played for us in 1955-56), a Ron Smith (1954-55 and 1955-56) and a Trevor Smith (1980-81 to 1982-83), but no George Smith.

 

(N.B. Of course there were also two Darren Smiths recently, after this book's 1996 publication).

Hi I don't know where I got George and the late sixties from. Its Ron Smith and it was 54. I saw my uncle yesterday (It's his dad and he married into my family on my mums side).

Can I borrow that book of your or does anyone have a copy to sell?

Yes a great book full of club stats and other interesting facts and pictures . Perhaps Lionel Ball may concider bringing it up to date and republishing it. I'm sure that it would sell well in th club shop.
