Anon posters can just be fans of the club who for one reason or another cannot join the boards and become a registered person. However there are a few people who like to [censored] stir (i should know i am/was/will be one!)

Ban Anon postings however and you lose alot of banter from away fans and also helpfull tips to them I.E what pubs to go to etc.

Banning i.p addresses would be better imo

Banning IP addresses isn't as good idea as it sounds. All the user has to do is either 1) connect through a proxy server or 2) dissconnect and then reconnect their internet connection, which will give them a new IP address.

As is my understanding anyway.

Some people have a static IP address (depending on who their ISP is) so disconnecting and reconnecting doesn't necessarily guarantee a different IP address ....

But you're quite right about proxy servers.....wonderful things for those who like to get past bans or who really wish to remain as totally anonymous as it's possible to be on the net........

Banning IP addresses is all well and good but as can be seen, it's easy enough to get around if someone has a mind to......

Gary, as you know we recently had a very serious problem with an anon poster on the Windsor forum.

I appreciate the problem with there being genuine anon posters but one other way is to turn on the viewable IP addresses again so at least we have something to check these people out with when their posts get out of hand.

It will also highlight those people having conversations with themselves!!

Mal, that doesn't always work for some wierd reason all aol users are the same number, that is why i continue to not be able to vote on polls, as a previous aol user has voted, it says vote already accepted from this address.

Back to anon posts, when I used to be on Iron Chatter we put the codes up, but the AOl thing meant it was difficult to trace.

Ok then Paul Howard Stephens LOL

Ooops, I had forgotten you post with a full name and there are in fact a few others. Most choose not to although at the end of the day it does not make a lot of difference.

Decorum probably has the best way of dealing with it, although some posts are hard to ignore.

As a matter of interest, Gary, how many names can be legitimately registered, i.e.has anybody get several names they can log with with different passwords, despite the IP address giveaway? I also seem to remember you catching somebody (was it the famous Britwell Councillor?) disguising his IP address?
