Daggers game

called off at 1405 !?!? I guess they tried to give the pitch as long as possible to thaw, but surely the ref would have had a pretty good idea at midday that it wasn't going to make it ? Oh well, looks like it should be milder by next weekend. I see the Burton and Leigh games are also off.

Pissed off is not quite the way I'm feeling at the moment!! A bit more than that!!

I've spent 10 pounds today to get there by coach and find out the game is called off. Not so bothered about the money but the fact I've wasted an afternoon when I could have been doing something worthwhile.

Unfortunately if it wasn't for my lack of transport I would have gone to Thurrock v Grays.

I find the decision to call the game off perplexing to say the least!!

it seemed strange to us aswell, but the ref had to consider the players safety, whatever us daggers do by our own accord is our responsibility! season greetings chaps and chapesses

what i heard was that both team's were happy to play the game and so was the 4th official and the linesman, is was just the ref that didnt fancy it. i heard a dag & red official in the clubhouse saying it was perfectly playable.

Could be a blessing in discuise as now the game will be re-aranged and hopefully we will have some of our injuries back.

With the way Daggers are playing at the moment and our injury problems I couldn't really see us getting much out of the game.

if the game had gone ahead i would of been happy with a point. we had more injuries aswell as jonny keeing & john kennedy were bout out.

Hopefully they will be back for tommorrow's game.

Woking's game went ahead so they will only have a days rest before they play us so hopefully we will take adavantage of that as we should be more fresh.

I see FGR beat Aldershot yesterday so it makes the next couple of games important for us to pick up some points.

COME ON YOU YELLOWS

Really need a win tomorrow after Forest Green's result yesterday. Just hope we can get the game on. See most of the non league programme for today has already been called off.

I'm sure Dagenham are disappointed that the game wasn't played - they would have earnt more on Sunday than they will on a rearranged mid week game.

Couldn't believe it when I parked the car on the main road and a Daggers fan said it was called off - must admit it did suprise me.

I don't know if there is anything in the rumour that Canvey objected strongly and wanted the game abandoned - it still would have cost Canvey in coach costs etc. However, with all the injury worries, in a harsh sort of way I could understand it if the club did put up some objections. Whether to obtain more time for injury problems to clear or if the side had genuine worries about picking up further injuries if the temperature had dropped that evening and the frost set in again. Injuries are certainly one thing we can't afford at the moment.

At least we have two home games to look forward to, assuming the permafrost stays away from Park Lane................two very important games - c'mon you Yellows!!

Canvey don't have to pay for the cost of travel, we do. The pitch was playable which was proven as we still played a match on it. Everything was set until the canvey team made their objections known to the ref at 2 oclock. Our players and management were perfectly happy with the pitch. So not so much, the daggers being dissapointed that the game was not played, more that we were dissapointed with your players attitude. Still maybe we can do the same on New Years day if it looks a little fresh out.

Wonder if Yellow can claim his £10 travel costs back off D&R as well if they are picking up the tab

If you've been to Park Lane you'll know it's always a "little fresh" - it's just a matter of how fresh........

See some of the "Anonymous" Dagenham posts above - if your team are silly enough to play a match to prove a point thats your issue - not ours.

Anyway, after walking out on my boxing day dinner and burning some fuel to get to Dagenham, your comment seems rather pathetic as I wouldn't want any Daggers fan to waste their time and money on a game that can't be played. The only person who knows why he called it off is the ref and after seeing some of their decisions on the field this season I'm sure as buggery not going to try and work out why he made the call he did.

Hope the game is played on New Years day and the best of luck to ya.

Why do you see it as silly to play a game of football on a perfectly playable pitch. Nothing wrong at all, it gave us something to watch so that the Canvey players did not spoil our day totally. The game was not bad, the pitch was fine as were most others in our area on the day. Just needed your players to make a game of it that's all.

If you were there you would have seen how your players reacted and if they tell the ref they are not happy and do not want to play what can the poor sod do.

Anyway, lets hope the weather is kinder on Sat and your players are now over their injury problems so that you can take full advantage of the delay (wasn't tactical honest guv lol). Lets just hope it does you no good and we still get the points. That would be a nice new year present and justice perhaps? UP The Daggers!!!

They can pay my train fare up there for the rearranged game!!

I think this is going to run and run. At the end of the day we were all dissapointed that the game was called off especially me and talking to a few neutrals in the days since the game a couple of them were tempted to come along until they found the game was called off.

It's best to move on and let's hope the game on New Year's Day is a real cracker!!

I was just surfing the net, looking at Nuneaton Borough and any forum references to Gavin Cowans loan move.

Anyway, as you do, I started to drift further afield and they have a game against Worcester today, so I ended up glancing at their forum and there is a reference to their boxing day game against Nuneaton which was also called off due to Ice. Anyway, it turns out both teams felt it was OK to play, but the ref's decision was final - all starting to sound familiar?

The ref called the game off and mentioned that he was running the line at a Torquay game where a player broke his leg due to the ice - apparently the ref for that game is now being sued. The (linesman at Torquay) now ref at Nuneaton said he wasn't prepared to play the game - they were also moaning about the potential loss of income from a re-aranged game, which will probably hit Daggers as well (I appreciate that some Daggers fans felt it wasn't the ref but the Canvey players and management that were at fault, but I don't want to resurrect that arguement please )

Raises some issues if people such as referee's are liable - they'll always air on the side of caution and I can't blame them - can the ref be taken to court in such circumstances?
