Lee Charles signs for Saints

Friday 24th of December 2004 10:53

Striker Lee Charles was signed from Weymouth last night and goes straight into the squad for the game at Cambridge on Sunday.

The 33-year old is a former England semi-professional international striker who signed for Ryman Premier side Aldershot Town in July 2002 from Conference outfit Nuneaton Borough. He signed for Nuneaton from Hayes in June 2002 under the Bosman ruling.

He scored 38 times in 103 appearances for Hayes following his arrival there from Queens Park Rangers for whom Ray Wilkins paid £67,500 for the young striker from Chertsey Town.

Lee was a member of the England semi-professional international squad throughout the 2000/01 season although he made his debut against Italy in March 1999.

He also had a stint at Barnet where he was a first team regular scoring 19 goals in 51 games and had a further spell at Cambridge United.

Transferred to Weymouth in June 2004.

On the downside Dean Hooper has received a further three match ban from the FA for an incident following his dismissal at Hornchurch. The ban begins on January 10 and Dean will miss games against Havant & Waterlooville, Maidenhead United and Hertford Town.

Darren Sarll has been released from his contract today by mutual agreement and Chris Zoricich has gone on a month's loan to Boreham Wood.
