At last! Some real news! [No. 181]

As I was queuing at the newsagents this morning for my copy of 'Private Eye' [Great cartoon on the front cover. Father Christmas, sleigh and reindeer having flown through one of those giant windmill things what produce electricity. Body parts, blood and presents all over the sky. Well it made me chuckle.]

Where was I? Oh yes.

The St Albans Observer. I was worried initially as the headline was "Saints shut up shop". However, I was reassured when I saw that the article referred to the clean sheet rather than "Closed due to lack of interest". Brief interview with the manager. Clean sheet against Eastbourne....one of the form sides in the division [that's Eastbourne rather than us] ...blah...blah... Bastock is a fine keeper.... Scott Cousins misses Boxing day due to suspension.... thin squad of 15....Walshe is back... in negotiation with an experienced League and Non League striker who may sign and commit his future to The Saints before training on Thursday.

A second brief interview with Gary 'Robbo' Roberts. ...Thin squad of 13.....4th in the League....relishing his return to t'Park.....The Saints wouldn't be in this level of poo if The Duo were still at the helm.... personality clash with Gibbo....still doesn't understand why he was sacked.....

I felt that Robbo and Gibbo are unlikely to be on each other's Christmas card list.

Err. That's it.

Can't argue with Cambridge City's league position can you tho?

Still say him & Cookie were the best I appointed in my time at City, better even that Hill.

Do you think that they would of taken us up if they had the same budget as Hill and Dowie

I don't think anyone really knows the reason he left, I've been told at least 3 versions. I know somebody connected with the club (past) still visits him on a regualr basis and he's said Robbo has never told him and won't.

Top bloke though and I'm sure we'll all be able to see what we're missing on Boxing and New Years day

Rob: Cookie was often under-rated, but played his part in a good pairing. Nice bloke too. Shame about the amount of debt at Milton Road. Were it not for that I might be chairman there, but that's another story.

Woody: compare 'em with Borg & Abbo - different types really. Abbo is very much George's no.2. George is starting to get the lads to play together as a unit and we've become difficult to beat. If I had to compare, I'd say there was little to choose between them - all good hard-working people. Gary Roberts is a great character.

Voice: budgets, hmmm. Both Hill & Bob had at least £2k a week more than Steve & Gary, but I felt we got far better value from the duo. One of my (few) regrets about my time at City is not meeting the pair of them earlier. Had, say, Steve & Gary followed Hill, I believe we would have gone up within two years.

Anyway: Off down the pub now to celebrate Minion's birthday so may I take this opportunity to wish you all (yes even Peter) a merry Christmas and a mid-table new year. You lot deserve a bit of peace & quiet!
