Slough Town Strikers

Can't help thinking what we are missing at the moment is a second striker to play alongside Hodgey. Now that's no criticism of Seedel or Murphy, but I think we have never replaced Tony Boot.

The trouble is all three of those strikers are too alike. Good in the air and targetmen, and you very rarely find targetmen playing alongside each other. Hodgey is never ganna pick up the ball outside the area, beat 3 defenders and hit it in the top corner. He relies on crosses as do tne rest of them and I think that's why were having few efforts on goal, where as last season we were shooting for fun.

I think Eddie needs a second striker - anyone else?

Too True, Seedel & Miller just aren't good enough for this level of football. Murphy has done well recently, but having just 2 strikers in hodges and himself, we are very thin on the ground. Love him or hate him, Craig O'connor would fit the bill niceley....

Personally I would like to see either Johnny Mason or Taureen O'Sullivan from the reserves given a go as both have shown more skilful attacking play and more pace than those which we already possess. From what I've heard Mason is connected with another club (Marlow I think) but O'Sullivan is a free agent so why not give him a go, especially now Miller's off on loan for a month we will only have the three strikers. Just one quick thought, didn't our best run of results come when Spencer was partnering Hodges. Just an idea.

I think Seedel can be a force at this level once he's got some more experience under his belt. From what I understand, he's never played this level of football before, but he's a big strong lad and has proved he's got an eye for goal in the reserves last season.

Hope Miller can find some form on loan and come back and form a partnership with Hodges. Don't think Hodgey will get as good service as last season as the wing backs are having to work three times as hard and cover a lot more ground. As I've said in another thread, would much prefer us to go back to a 4-4-2 as I think it suits Hodgey, and the teams strength, so much better and would allow us to create more.

I've said it before that I didn't agree with the popularly held view that Boot was lazy and I think we're seeing now that as well as being a brilliant goalscorer he brought out the best in Hodgey and vice versa.

I like Matt Murphy and he has a very good footballing brain but he's too similar to play alongside Hodgey and doesn't give us the pace that Booty had. The reason he looked tired last night was probably because of the running he did on Saturday where he was outstanding in the first half.

Given the need for a smaller and more mobile striker to play alongside Ian, and the fact Smurph2 hasn't up to now got a huge amount of goals that we'd miss if he was left out, I'd be inclined to give Matty an extended run in the team and allow him to build up an understanding with Hodgey.

They are both easily good enough to play at this level. All Matt Miller needs is some confidence, and all Matt Seedel needs is some experience.

Maybe he should be the the who is going out on loan?

Hodges and Miller. Give it a go for at least four or five games.

How many times have they actually played together for a full match?

KOC- That's what one of your fans said today at the club! (cannot remember who said it)

He's played with us before and people said he was pushed off the ball too easy but he's older now and so people seem to think he'll do a good job for us
