POINTS OVER CHRISTMAS WILL BE...

Or maybe Mr. Anonymous was participating in the 'lose/loose' confguide in-joke - I hope so, given poor spelling like that.

Okay, so we haven't been getting totally thrashed by anyone, but if you look at it objectively, going backwards through the last few games:

Hereford (a) Deserved nothing and got nothing after an even first half and the opposition's superior second half display.

Barnet (h) Ditto.

Farnborough (h) Draw about right, I'd say.

Scarborough (a) Again, like Hereford a sub-standard second-half showing meant a 1-0 defeat was fair...

...and so on. I'd say that in pretty much every game since the win over Leigh, taking balance of play and chances into account, the result was fair. That's the harsh reality at the moment.

Something's obviously gone wrong, hasn't it? We have been unlucky with the woodwork and disallowed goals but sometimes we've hardly had a shot on target.I'd like to see more attacking moves straight up the middle of the park. Not high balls but straight, route one, on the deck passing. Get to within 25-30 yards of the goal, leather it hard and low and see what happens. It could go straight in, deflect in or go for a corner, hit a defender's hand, anything. Ok, admittedly it would probably take the front off a passing 480 bus but, hell to it, have a go. Shoot!!!

I'm amazed that after 11 games without a win, our goal difference is still (just) in the black. Now if we can turn around those odd-goal losses by converting our chances, some points surely have to come our way...

Don't think some of our infamous supporters would agree. I've heard comments like he'll shoot rather than pass. Someone on here was moaning about Essendoh shooting too much a weeks or so ago. I think one or two of our players are maybe a bit too reluctant to have a go because of the stick they'll get if it does hit the 480 bus!!

That certainly seems to be the case at times. As Jimmy indicated on here, there was an incident at the end of the Hereford game where we were in and around the opposition box with the ball for quite a while, with players just laying it off to one another and no-one willing to have a shot.

As for my earlier post in this thread, there is perhaps an exception to the rule - the Tamworth game, where play was pretty even overall and we had a seemingly legitimate goal from Jay disallowed, yet came away with nothing. However, that's the only example I can think of, and as Stu points out, it's all about taking your chances - something we're often not very good at.

I think will set us up for a mid-table finish. I don't think we are playing too badly despite our results of late that are worse than we deserve.

Crawley, away and home = nil points
Accrington Stanley, home = one point

So to summarise, one point over the festive season and not a great start to 2005, it's harsh but the truth. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/argue.gif" alt="" />

Started off on the wrong foot Eh.

The team even! managed to confound the predictions of our more cynical fans and posters.

As usual Andy Drury played a blinder with his clever skills, and would you believe it, managed to win the MOM accolade from the Radio Kent team
