Julian Charles - (Pay up Reevsie)

Recommended Posts

All I have been able to discover so far about Julian who played about an hour of tonight's game is that he was at Brentford last season and started at least one league match.

He was on loan to Farnborough for a while where he played 4 matches scoring once.

Date of Birth 5/2/77 Place of Birth Plaistow.

I thought he looked very useful myself. Let's hope we see some more of him.

Number 7 was Austin Berkeley - Bentley was number 8.

The guy that came on at the start of the second half didnt get much of a chance from Andy, did he ?? Lewis Phillips, I think his name was - 15 minutes on the pitch & off how can you judge someone properly on that (even if he did look a bit lost) ?

Thought the squad looked pretty good throughout tonight & Andy will have some tough decisions to make during the course of the season, as to who should play each week.

Smithy had a good second half on the pitch, & Liam was as enthusiastic as ever - we just need to sharpen the passing up somewhat - there was some really sloppy passing at times & one of those poor passes gave them there goal ( albeit that their chap still finished it really well).

And whilst we need to see a certain level of aggression, lets see it channelled in the right way - we dont want silly sendings off - it will be hard enough as it is. Had that been a league game tonight, a ref may well have sent Justin Skinner off for his headbut on their player in the first half (even if it was somewhat lightweight) Absolutely needless in a friendly.

Lets see more of the type of move that led to our goal - well put together with a precise finish from Boothy.

Lewis Phillips is black with blonde hair Alan. That was Austin Berkley wearing the 11 shirt in the second half. I think he was replaced by Stuart Searle.

No reason at all Alan, unless you went to Basingstoke. Believe me once seen never forgotten.

However the club announcer should be told who is playing or there is no point him saying anything at all is there.

It seems Julian is also a World Cup Star as well !

Which great nation does he play for, I hear you cry ??

Well, its the wonderfully named "San Vicente & Granadinas" !!

Who the heck are they I hear you ask ??

They are part of the CONCACAF Group of nations & they played in a 4 team pre qualifying World Cup group in 2000. The other teams were El Salvador, Honduras and Jamaica. They lost all 6 games.

Julian appeared in at least 2 of the games - playing a whole game against Honduras (A) and the last 30 minutes against Jamaica (A).

He was on Brentfords books during both 2000/01 and 2001/02. ( Lets just hope that he doesnt do the same as his fellow ex Brentford player, a certain Mr Bryan, and clear off in a tantrum because he may not be an automatic first choice)

There is also a Featured Player Article on the Brentford Website. The link for this is :-

Hope this helps.

Work commitments kept me away last night, and then I'm away for a week, then I have to move house the weekend of the Yeovil game (from 803 to 812 Lower Higham in case you were wondering, Dave) and then I'm away for a week again.

The awful prospect of not seeing the Fleet until after the Dagenham game, by which time you lot will all have learned the players' names and I'll be saying: "Go on, No 7", has just dawned on me.

What was the crowd last night?

Taken from the Brentford message board, dated over two years ago:-

I think he shows promise. He made some good runs, showed plenty of bottle in the tackle.

&
If I was going to criticise him I would say that he lacked a bit of composure when on the ball.

Only having seen him the once on Tuesday against Brighton I shouldn't comment, but he seemed comfortable. Against Conference opposition I think he could tear them apart. Maybe not that out and out goalscorer we need, but certainly another goalmaker with the potential to score.

The club announcer was told who was going to wear the no 11 shirt in the second half via the blackboard in the changing room completed by one Andy Ford. Not having had the benefit of seeing Lewis P previously and not benefitting from the best view in the world behind reinforced glass it wasn't until Austin left the pitch I realised he had indeed played instead of Lewis P.

Perhaps the webmeister shouldn't say anything at all!!

I don't think Julian had (has) what it takes to be a Second Division striker. But I'll say this - he tried as hard as anyone, ran himself into the ground and had more talent that many others who have tried and failed to make the grade as a pro footballer. I hope he does well at Gravesend or wherever he plays.

May I suggest you try the Woking F.C. web-site as they had him on loan for a while - careful though, I don't think they thought that much of him !

A touch sensitive aren't we Brian, when what I actually said was that you should be told who the players were, not that you should know!
