The report also mentions that it was a Jon Keeling cross which led to one of the Canvey goals.

Clarkie has got pace but little else. Sir Jon Keeling was a great Urchin and it was a mistake to let him go (IMO).

From what I saw, I could never understand why Clarkie was chosen above Johnny Martin, but I am sure that he will fit in with a team somewhere. JK was a great loss and appears to be doing very well at Canvey. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and I dont know if he had stayed with us, whether he would have gone after the 4th November like some of the others.

The reason Jon left Hornchurch was he didn't want to go full time. He is very happy with his farm and going pro would force him to give this up. He is ambitious about his football career because he approached Jeff King and asked to be given a chance Canvey. Although he has taken a step up he can still combine his job with playing football as Canvey as yet are not full time.

 

If he had stayed at Hornchurch I'm pretty sure he would have stayed and helped you guys out.

Loyalty doesn't pay the bills, mortgage or feed the kids. This is probably an old argument, so excuse me, as I have been internet-less for the last few months. If Hornchurch's financial situation had not changed then I very much doubt any of the players that left, would have gone. But things happened and these boys were all told to find other clubs. At the end of the day these players were full-time players, who aren't about to show loyalty to a club that can't afford to pay their wages and who, in all honesty can blame them. I ask you, would you carry on working if your guv'nor couldn't afford to pay you and you knew there was a club down the road that would???? Loyalty in football???
