Brief Report on today

Good game, good performance and fair result.

CK forced to play either 3-5-2 or 4-4-2.It worked.

(see other ranting post on midfield performance)

Margate started well ,then after first 20 minutes, game became fairly even.

Midfield of Gate were passing it around and played really good football.JK and Clarke(captain) excellent.PB and Alex also fully contributed.

A few chances to either side, but neither defence seriously troubled in an entertaining quality half.

Bouadji Smith,Barnett and Oates looked reasonably solid and without Edwards we were able to find are midfield players as opposed to the hoof upfield for ball to bounce back again. We also had numbers in midfield to collect the ball.

Second half was overall fairly even again.Their first goal, the usual slack marking/slow to respond from a cross.Trego went Bananas at the defence.

HOWEVER this time heads did not drop and Gate continued to play good football and Clarke exquisitely curled a shot around and over their keeper.

Shortly after ball out of their defence was headed on and past Barnett and Smith .Jackson beat them and Trego to the ball and slotted it home(in fairness thats the type of goal that a sweeper may have prevented but the plusses of more in midfield outweigh that )

Again heads did not drop and Smith headed an equaliser similar to their first goal.

Game continued in quality fashion and Gate may just have nicked it at the end.

In fairness Weymouth had a header hit inside of post aswell.

Decent atmosphere and pitch aswell and expect the Gate responded to these better surroundings.(best coffee in conf. south so far)

Trego made a few very good saves.

Defence all solid, although a bit slow .Positive was that Oates did not appear to be hobbling at end.

Midfield -combined and fought well.Again JK superb and Clarke by far best game this season.

Watson decent game as striker.

Rocky-ran his heart out and for a 6 foot striker, his control and ball skills are absolutely superb-pleasure to watch his skill.

No subs made but credit also to Moses and Nej again for their support.

CK-please keep with 4 proper midfield players.

[color:"blue"] Have to agree with Michael, superb all-round performance. Have to say that Bill Edwards was missing (phoned in sick) but <sadly> not missed.

Also, as they don't get much credit, have to say well done to the officials. Of course they missed things, and made a few dubious decisions (I wouldn't be a football fan if I didn't say that) but on the whole it was the best refereeing display I've seen this season (though that's not hard, as most officials in this League have been abysmal).

BTW spoke to Chris before the match, and he was very upbeat about the reported progress with the ground & said, whilst there's no money to reinforce the squad at the moment as soon as money becomes available there will be new signings and he has 5 players waiting to join us.

Agree with you about officials Peter-decent-although ithink we may have been favoured before Smiths goal by a dubious free kick in our favour.

With Gradley,Che and Green to return, you wonder if we need more than one tall central defender and a midfield player as long as we keep playing 4 in midfield

I broadly agree with previous posts. It was the first game that I had seen since Basingstoke (away on holiday) where I thought we played well and were unlucky not to come away with a point.

Yesterday we silenced their crowd of over a 1000 by the way that we played in the first 20 minutes or so. We had very good chances in the first five minutes and on another day may have tucked at least one away. It also seemed to me that we played higher up the field, particularly in the first half, which we surely shaded.

Weymouth had obviously had a boot up the backside at halftime and scored shortly afterwards (quality player Cariata). But great credit to the Gate we came back twice and I felt that we finished the stronger side, looking for the winner.

A terrific performance in the circumstances, with only 2 subs to rely on (and one a keeper), where we were expected to get thrashed.

I am very pleased with the performance and the result and look forward to the Christmas break games with confidence.

Despite yesterdays decent result, i've got the relegation jitters a bit; since i suspect any new funding for arrivals is some way away even if commercial development gets early go-ahead.

Frankly just can't see a project that complex getting an early nod, though i suspect it will in the end; but i can see about 6 months of negotiating/modifying the scheme.

Hope i am wrong

Then i've looked at fixtures in March and April and there are tough games in those months; so frankly, i think it is essential to win the next 4 league games
