CK-please stick with 4 in midfield

Decent result and quality football.

On occasions we looked like Arsenal in midfield.

Injuries/abscences necessitated 4 in midifield.

We played either 4-4-2 or 3-5-2.

The extra guy in midfield made so much difference.

We passed the ball around, and there was always someone free to pass to.

JK and Clarke were phenominal and well supplemented by both PB and Alex who had decent games-a few loose passes but to be fair our 'junior' midfielders did well overall, and next season could be quality if they continue to learn .

It was a different team with 4 in midfield. It helped the defence because it slowed their attacking down(esp. in first half) and when we made clearances there was someone there to pick the ball up and thus it was not bouncing back and putting the Gate under immediate pressure.

Oates also helped out so sometimes there were 5 in midfield.

Such a difference.

Also must say Weymouth had a excellent midfielder in a new signing -Cariata-he was quality aswell.

PLEASE PLEASE CK, STAY WITH 4 IN MIDFIELD

couldnt get to the game "damn Job" but im gutted i missed a solid peromance from the midfield and a formation that didnt envolve 5 at the back maybe ck has seen the light.

Glad that clarke is back to good form he really is the best midfield player we have when his on top of his game.

[color:"blue"] Other than putting Benevides, Clarke or Charalambous in the back we had no choice. As none of those could play sweeper - there was little CK could do other than play as we did.

As you say Peter, there was no choice; and no-one would get carried away over one performance , but the point was we played decent fotball(admitedly aided by a decent pitch)and everyone did their job well.

With 5 at back ,it almost gets too crowded and there is a tendency to think others will cope.

With3/4 at back everyone has a dedicated job to do.

Above all, with 4 in midfield, there is more chance of picking up defensive clearances and thus relieving the pressure of the ball coming straight back to the defence.

There are more options for the midfield to play the simple ball-whilst JK and AClarke were the main players in mkidfield; PB and Alex did their bit by buzzing around and being available to take the simple pass and keep possession'and then Clarke could take the return ball up the flank.

It was good stuff.

Put Gradley in there as he is slightly more defensive and provides extra defensive cover and that midfield looked ok yesterday.

I think major change aswell was Clarke back to top form.

One thing from yesterday that i thought wrong was that with our difficulties in defending high balls at set pieces, that Watson stayed upfront.Imo we needed his height at defensive set plays and he should have been brought back in defence and maybe Alex pushed up as lone striker at those defensive set pieces

As its been raised again tonight on a separate post, thought i'd bring this to the front.

I think my view is fairly clear on the subject.

I think there is also solid reasoning behind the arguement aswell.

Maybe if there are any advocates of 5-3-2 left in the world, they could add their reasoning.

Having said that, i remember Porka and i, banging on about this about a year ago.

Its not as though CK is going to take any notice of us armchair saddo's on here.Afterall, what do i know` about it.

Like MM and many others i have wanted the gate to play 4-4-2 for a long time(typical im working when ck finaly does) i think most of us agree on the fact that the + of 5-3-2 seem to be very little with this current gate side.

Ck is a top manager and im sure he must see that 4-4-2 is the way to go at the moment most goals we conced are due to slopy set peices and silly errors due to haveing so many gate player going for the same ball of getting in each others way it apears to be chaos at times in the box.

Any way is late need a bath so please excuse any inacurate spelling or punctuation tongue
