IS IT TIME FOR ONLY ONE CLUB IN ENFIELD

The council are not in the least interested in senior spectator sport. Naturally they will make all sorts of vague verbal promises, and maybe even something carefully non-committal in writing, but they will say the same thing to both clubs and will not deliver to either.

What's more, some people seem to think that councils GIVE land away. That's not going to happen.

As a former director of EFC and a sponsor of ETFC, I think the time is now ripe for the two clubs to have a chat about working together. One club, playing in Enfield, has the potential to be as strong as the old club, but I do agree that restrictions should be put in place to prevent any one man ever getting himself in a position to control. Share issues? yes, to attract investment, but limit holdings to a maximum of, say, 20%, so that no one man can ever be king or king maker.

If you achieve that unity, I beleive the Council would support the Club with its efforts to build a new home in the borough, possible even better than Southbury Road. I believe there are loads of people and business out there, waiting for the two clubs to sort it out and then they will all get behind the club.

Good luck to you all and Merry Christmas.

Excellent, thoughtful post, Iron Webbo. My thoughts entirely! However, I doubt the council will help in any way other than verbal. Not unless we call ourselves Enfield Borough or something naff like that.

Have a cool yule everyone <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

I doubt that what we are called has any baring on the Local council.Even if Enfield council WERE/ARE willing to help ETFC/EFC or a merged club. The same thing will happen, that happens every year. Enfield council will find themselves with a budget deficit of about 10 million pounds and they will do exactaly what they do at the end of every finacial year to balance the books. IE..Sell off land to fairview and Laing's.Land earmarked to be offered to ETFC/EFC, will be first to go.

Over 4000 people signed a petition to keep the Es in Enfield some years ago now and that didn't work. Maybe we should ask for the document back and try to contact as many people as possible to badger the local ward councillors to put pressure on the Council to listen to the people who matter - Enfield people.

I still have a copy of the Gazette which has over 400 names on the front page of those who wanted the Es to stay at Southbury Road. Maybe we start with that?

I agree that the clubs should at least talk about an amalgamation. It was some time ago that ETFC offered to talk to EFC but did not get a response. It seems to me that having made the offer it is for EFC to either pick up the olive branch or forget the whole thing.

As a sponser of ETFC I will continue to support football in the borough and do not want a 20% share of the club. It seems to me that the idea that you can issue shares up to a limit of 20% holding is a non-starter. Once shares are issued in this way the club becomes the instrument of the shareholders and control can, ultimately, end up in the hands of one person to the detriment of the football.

I consider that the ETFC form of ownership is the most democratic and retains control with the people that matter, the fans. I would not sponsor any club which is in private ownership having seen what the football Tsars do with the clubs that they control.

Your constant intemperate attitude won't win you many friends, Syrup. Maybe you could explain why this 'no response' thing is wrong instead of bitching all the time. This is, after all, a sensible thread about the long-term future of the Enfields. Care to expand on these problems at the Town, or are you just stirring, perchance?

Have a merry Christmas anyway <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

There is a view amonst Town supporters that we are as white as white can be and that EFC are the evil ones. Lazarou has now gone and EFC are just another club as are we. Their management are not all bad and our management are not all good.

Steph's view of never issuing block shares is idealistic. However, if Town or a merged club is ever to get beyond step 4 then serious cash will be required, the type that a band of volunteers can never get unless they are very lucky.

should we merge ?? tough question that !! as an oldish git of nearly 32 years & remembering back to when i was 5yrs old being told to crawl under the turnstiles as was to small to get through them by the nice man on them to stand on the terraces at southbury road with my dad made it a pretty hard choice to start following the newly formed TOWN.having watched EFC all them years with some great players & cup runs made it even harder.my dad gave up on enfield teams altogether which is very sad in my opinion & now watches cheshunt or hoddesdon.me on the other hand chose to follow the TOWNERS.although i have a soft spot for EFC im happy to say i havnt looked back & its enjoyable to watch our team grow.i never did know the ins & out of the trouble EFC got themselves into but i do feel its mainly down to that **** lazarou (however its spelt) i belive he saved the club when he arrived, but he sure as hell destroyed it before he left !! had he have been outed at the time i still belive we would be 1 club.as for now il keep dreaming of my little TOWN making it to the big time.merging with EFC isn't high on my wish list but if it ever happened & improved the club id probably have to say id be happy.i just want to support the team from the place that i was born like a true footie fan shud & even though travelling from braintree is a pain in the bum il keep doing it as often as i can to watch the super TOWN.
