Didcot Game

Reflection on last nights game-quite a good game which was competitive. One or two new faces looked as though they may be worth another go,a thick set centre back in the first half and a longish haired midfielder who came on in the second half(sorry no names were anounced)and a young stocky chap who played left back.I know that this was the first friendly and we had a couple of last years players missing, but having dined on better class players over the years most of these did not look up to scratch, maybe there's more in the pipeline.

The "better" players didn't get us back to Premier status, so maybe the pragmatism of only paying for what we can afford will serve us better.

It doesn't fill me with excitement, but I know I'll feel much better if they consistently try hard, work for each other and obtain success.

Bring on Great Wakering........it doesn't have the attractiveness of an Aldershot, Sutton Utd or Kingstonian unfortunately.

Centre Back - Adrian Browne, has featured regularly for the reserves and with the right guidance could become a very useful acquisition.

Full back - Paul Reid - Wanted by two Ryman Premier sides after being released by Swindon, but is he better than Paul Barrowcliff?

Useful run out, impressed by the leadership at the back from MacKenzie in goal and from Hale upfront. Thought Darron Wilkinson had a very competent game doing all the simple things very well and putting himself about a bit.

Disappointed with Mike Simpson (No. 9) during the first half, he'd not got involved, and I hope there are a few more promising local lads to come in.

Plenty of encouraging signs though, but Hayes will prove a much bigger challenge on Saturday.

Remember a lot of the players last night were trialists. I thought the left-back Reid was very impressive and has played for Swindon first team last season apparently. If we had him at left back we could puch Barras into midfield, which is where he prefers to play anyway (Barras injured last night as was Daly).

Though MacKenzie was very solid and kept on talking to the defence like Gary McCann did. I would like him to be the first team keeper as it seems both Mautone and Zepherin have left.

Not sure about the right back (only joking Anthony!).

The centre backs did OK, but I did not think the opposition had too much up front. Personally i'd still like to see Daly/Macca or Stotty there.

In midfield nobody stood out really. That's the place i'm a little worried about as that's where we probably need stregthening most of all - especially on the right wing with Gallagher gone now.

Up front seems OK with Hale (a proven goalscorer at this level) and Sammy Winston and hopefully with Bartley (Please!) or Roach (Please!) to return we will be strong there.

There will probably be a load of new faces in the Hayes game as well. That's the way it always is in friendlies!

I think that u will find that Paul Reed has never played for Swindon Town's First Team however has featured as a regular player in their reserve team.

Can't wait till the Hayes game any idea on admission prices?

mmm... yes 'mr programme editor' i'm led to believe that the programme this year will be of a much 'higher quality' standard than previous seasons, and that a very kind gentleman is doing for nowt and out of the love for his club, also i hear that he's a good graphic designer and if anyone needs any work done then he is available, yes i think that's about all for now... what a lovely bloke though...
