Life changing decision...

OK, I'm having a bit of a re-think about the whole university thing.

I really enjoy the whole social side of university, that's great. And living in halls has been a lot of fun so far. I get on with my flatmates and everyone on my floor and it's all cosy and nice.

However, the academic side isn't what I thought it'd be. I'm not sure I want to be a journalist anymore. I just can't get into it and as a result I've missed quite a few classes, which isn't really like me. The assignments I've done so far I've done well in, but it's been so laboured it's just silly. Also, there are a lot of pretentious cocks on my course which really annoys me.

I'm seriously thinking about jacking the whole thing in and getting a job. I'll probably stay for the rest of the year, see how I do in my exams and stuff and then decide after that. My parents will kill me if I do though!

Any suggestions? help!

I reckon do as you say - stay til the end of the year and see how you feel then.

If you explain that you made a mistake with your course, I'm sure your parents would be cool about it. Especially if you went to them with a well-thought out plan of what you intend to do next, whether it be start a new course, or go out and find some work.

Chubbster, three points...

1. If your not happy with the journo thing then you are wasting your time.

2. You need to do something though. So why not stick it out then try and switch to something else. You degree will open doors when you join the rest of us in the world. Otherwise your career options will include a return to the coffee place.

3. Zealster is a proven provider of working love juice if you need any.

Dude keep at it.

I'm in my last year and i've hated the acedemic side of my course since i started it.

Journalism is really competetive and you get crap money speak to a lecturer and you might be able to exchange credits for the work you have already done for another course for example english.

Dont give up on it yet its your first term and on popular courses like yours they try and get rid of the wasters so after christmas they have a smaller commited class.
