Crap day!!

YELLOW

Recommended Posts

Awful, awful day. It all started badly when our coach party got turned away from services and rapidly got worse.

The game was forgettable. Ref was appalling, made very poor decisions but it didn't mask a poor display by Canvey. Defence was woeful, no cohesion in midfield and nothing in attack.

Chenners was sent off for a second booking and things did improve slightly when Sedgy got a consolation goal but then Danny let in a poor goal for 4-1 and then it really went pear shaped.

A section of Halifax fans started taunting Pete Smith with monkey chants. Our support went ballistic and it was pretty lucky a riot didn't take place. Danny had to run over to calm things down and Kingy had to come over at the end as things were getting rather heated!!

Absolutely disgusting behaviour. The chant seemed quite loud. I imagine these are not genuine Halifax fans but local morons just looking for trouble.

To top it all it took over 6 hours to get home tonight!!

I was expecting to be home indoors with a nice Chinese takeaway at just after 10pm but just outside of Newark we found without warning the A1 shurt!!! The driver then proceded to take us through a tour of darkest Lincolnshire through Bourne and Stamford and quite frankly I don't think he knew where he was going!!

A miserable day that is best forgotten. Very few positives if any can be taken from today.

Hi, Halifax fan here.

Definitely an odd day. When they announced that Matadar was the referee we all expected him to give everything against us (his usual style), but then he seemed to give us a lot - except for when he didn't play advantage but pulled us back for the free kick, which we scored our second from.

I don't know if we were particularly good or you were bad in the first half, everything just seemed to gel for us. Especially impressive since both our first choice strikers are out, as is our creative winger. Second half we changed our formation and fell to pieves a bit, and you picked up your game.

I suspect the abuse was directed at your player for right hooking our number 8 during the melee, how he only got booked for that I don't know. That said, there is no excuse whatsoever for racist chanting, and the stewards should have done something about it. Could you please all complain to Halifax Town regarding the matter. Unfortunately our stewards are dreadful, and something will only get done if enough people complain. You can contact the club by phoning 01422 341222 or emailing secretary@halifaxafc.co.uk. Please make the effort, any of you who were at the match.

I woke up yesterday and it felt a little weird not printing off directions and planning my route north - can't comment on the actual game as I obviously couldn't make it, but I did manage to hear commentary on Essex Radio whilst doing jobs round the house.

Sounded like it was going wrong in the first couple of minutes when Duffers got elbowed in the ribs and retaliated. Ref didn't see the elbow, and had no option but to book him.

A couple of the first half goals sounded as though the defence was a sleep and we just allowed them to have a crack. I think the commentary described one as a training style goal where he just picked hi spot and slotted it in.

Sounded as though Braniff and Pearson were trying but there was no cohesion from midfield to our forwards - for that matter it didn't seem as though there was any from defence to midfield.

How did you rate Pearson Yellow, on the radio they seemed to think he looked strong and quite capable but wasn't getting anything from midfield.

Can't understand why Keeling didn't start - he does create that link between midfield and forward play and he's not scared to run at the opposition rather than keeping passing it until we lose posession.

Second point that worried me was our captain was in defence but they seemed on a low ebb and unorganised - think Pennyfather commented that they started with 3 at the back then changed to four. He then gets booked - for dissent I believe, and then gets a second bookable and is sent off. Not what you would expect.

The whole game sounded rather poor on the radio.

Glenn Pennyfather mentioned the racist taunting and said it did upset a couple of the players. He also mentioned that the linesman heard it and should report it. He said the ref commented that "if he had heard it they would have left the pitch - obviously he didn't hear it...." Sounds as though the ref was extremely poor.

Perhaps the Shots were right and as we are playing rather poor at the moment (same as the Shots)we have lost our discipline. Also a couple of weeks ago Accrington said we were the best supporters they have had all season and now we have a "near riot" with Jeff and Danny stepping in - the provocation must have been extreme.

Just had a look on the Halifax board and it would seem that the Linesman has reported the racial chanting to the FA.

Also their fans booing at the end of the match was directed at our players for being "dirty bastards"

Would've loved to have been at that game yesterday.

There were a few brawls on the field throughout the match and at one point your black defender swung for our striker completely unprovoked. A few morons in the stand responded with monkey chants.

Only about 4 people chanted and it lasted for about 3 seconds. It wasn't nearly as terrible as everyone is making out but I'm not condoning it of course. I hope they identify the pillocks and ban them. And no doubt the club will get fined.

As for the game, the ref was poor but he can't be blamed for a 4-1 defeat. I thought you were very poor in the first half. You picked things up in the second but never posed a real threat.

Anyway, good luck for the rest of the season.

Did seem to be a section of the Halifax support who were goading our supporters in the First half and it seemed to be the same ones giving out the monkey chants.

As for Pearson he looked ok. Had one shot deflected over in the first half that the ref inexplicably failed to give a corner for and then dragged a shot wide. Had very little service but showed some nice touches.

Farnborough is a must win next week because we're in a real rut at the moment.

Don't think anyone would deny you your win and you seem to be having a good season.

Our coach Glenn Penyfather described the first 45 minutes as the worst he has seen Canvey play. For the record he didn't go on to much about the abuse either and said it was for the officials and Halifax Town to deal with.

After reading some of the Halifax Town Forum comments - its strange peoples perceptions.

Both Shots and Halifax have highlighted Peter Smith and there was one point on the commentary where he won the tackle fairly and followed through with the other leg - and they couldn't understand why he had done that - there seemed no reason. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/shrug.gif" alt="" />

Also they mention our keeper Danny Potter having a go at the crowd and gesturing a w***r sign to the "so called" Halifax supporters. Suggestions of "enciting the crowd and instant bans" - again it must have been extreme provocation because he tried to calm the crowd and what Halifax suppoerters don't realise is that he has been applauded by numerous fans this season for "loving the banter" and enjoying the crack with opposing fans.

A few weeks ago he was applauded off the pitch by Accrington fans and we have had comments from York, Exeter and others on how great it is to see a keeper join in and not take it to heart.

Seems so called Halifax fans were intent on taking it to an extreme.

Anyway, good luck for the rest of the season - but it sounds like some of your fans need to calm down a bit.........

I imagine with Halifax having had a decent cup run recently it has attracted a few new supporters and I imagine a few of the local morons have started turning up.

Notice BBC Essex have been reporting on the story all morning.

The racism has now been discussed on the Halifax board (see http://www.clayhousemedia.org.uk/phpBB2/...p;p=13790#13790

and http://www.clayhousemedia.org.uk/phpBB2/...629&p=13790 ), and everyone is appalled at the behaviour of these morons.

As I said previously, our stewards are dreadful and do nothing about this sort of problem. Please make your feelings known to the club, as only then will something get done - 01422 341222 or secretary@halifaxafc.co.uk.

Potter had nothing to do with it. We all thought it was great to see Potter join in the banter when we chanted 'Potter Potter What's the score'. he started counting on his fingers and then made out as though he had lost count and just shrugged his shoulders! He got a round of applause and again at half time. I didn't see any instance where your keeper was abused at all and he did not provocate us at any point.

There are suggestions that the BNP were responsible for the monkey chants. A small number of the BNP have unfortunately started attending our games recently. Lets hope they are dealt with.

Never Shay Die - I never said Potter had anything to do with it - it was suggested on your forum.

Its true Bigwayne, our lads were booing the Canvey Island player's, I was one of them.

We booed because the Canvey island team were a dirty set of Bast***s

and their goalkeeper gave the crowd a ***** sign at the end, lets see if the F.A pick up on this, he was enticing the crowd, instatnt ban is it not??

I guarantee to you all that nobody in the crowd aimed any abuse at the SHAYMEN.

come on the town.

I was merely pointing out that opposition fans rarely know what an opposing player is truely like.

As in the link to confguide where I think you have posted - Danny has earned a lot of respect from numerous fans at different clubs. If he did make a gesture - it is not in his general nature - as you can verfiy. If he did gesture he must have been provoked not just from a few boo boys.

I'm sure you and any of the true Halifax town fans who have posted on both forums deploring the actions of a minority will sort out any issues you have with the few idiots that have possibly latched onto HTFC - good luck.

Danny was great throuhout the game and i know for a fact that any Halifax fans suggesting he gave a obscene gesture to them are just trying to make things up to try to get out of their own disgusting, vile behaviour.

Fortunately, it was only a small bunch of fans that did it and the majority of fans that i saw throwing a bit of banter our way were just having a bit of fun with the North-South divide. I and a lot of others thought it was all funny.

I was standing next to Danny when we all complained to the stewards and his exact words were, 'That is disgraceful mate. What are you lot gonna fu*king do about it?' So it wasn't just a lot of over-zealous fans trying to make a scene but generally a honest reaction to what we all felt at the time.

I dont know about Halifax, but the Canvey fans are very close to the players in the bar after games and during games. So when a few scummy supporters (And i'm talking to the guy with the dark Benny hat and Grey coat and all his retarded cronies!) start to do that, we all feel it.

Thank you, the majority of the Halifax fans know, i thought you were fine and i would like to come to the Shay again and have a few beers with you all again. But i emplore you to find those fans and ban them because they are bringing your team down and that is a shame because you are a good team with good fans.

Well said mate,I was at the game but behind our home end so did n't see too much of the trouble at your end.I' m afraid our so called stewards don't have a brain cell between them,it's time they were all sacked. It's inexcusable to chant racist abuse at your players, our moron stewards should have called for police assistance but the idiots probably could n't work out how to use their radios! We'll probably end up with a fine because of these prats.Good luck for the rest of the season
