Crowds

I don't think anyone should be to surprised with the drop in crowds at BA. Unfortunately this occurs at all levels in football. All this nonsense about, for example the Geordies having the best and most loyal supportes in the land makes me laugh!!! When they were struggling pre-Keegan days, 15-20,000 was the norm, 52,000 these days, don't add up does it? Same with any club the more successful you are, the more that team wants to be seen, as soon as things go pear-shaped a lot clear off. Sunderland, another example full houses in the P'Ship, now wouldn't know what a full house is in the Coca Cola. Obviously our siuation is on a totally different scale, but the criteria is the same. I could tell, speaking to some fans at games before the crash, they were there, enjoying the quality of football, being played by players who frankly were a different class to the level they were playing at. Reckon 250 /300max will be the norm now, unless a New UU comes in, and no one should be surprised, just a fact in of life in the often shallow and fickle world of supposedly supporting a football club.

I'll tell you why - Because people are p***ed off messing around with scumbags like ticketmaster etc. If the club don't sort out a better way of administrating ticket sells they will the same problem at the new ground. Don't get me wrong though, Arsenal have glory hunters in the same way I've mentioned Newc/ S'land. I remember being there with 13,000 others when beating Boro in 82.

Yeah, agree crowds are up, but clubs need to be careful - you can have too much of a good thing. Their attitude of "if you won't pay some other mug will" could come back to haunt them. I for one, would not at all b surprised, that after the inital boom, Arsenal struggle to sell out all games at AG. I don't think they're b bothered anyway, because the break even is 43,000 and they're get that with season tickets holders. And of course they're have their corporate punters which are of more interest to clubs these days anyway.

westy - arsenal have sold out every game this season, but most tickets have been available on general sale at some stage, which was unheard of a few seasons ago.

As we were saying yesterday, since the fit hit the shan at the start of november, we've had one any home game on a saturday afternoon, vs grays. attendance was 740, although probably about a third of that was the grays fans.

that still leaves a core of around 450-500 fans. I think it's too early to write off the fans as a loss - it's bloody cold in the winter evenings, and not everyone wants to watch hornchurch hoof the ball down the pitch for 90 minutes on a cold and wet tuesday night.

let's wait and see how many we get for Matty York's welcoming comittee.

Attendances do tend to drop around winter time with people doing Xmas shopping and the colder weather. You've had quite a few midweek matches recently and your attendances have not been helped by on two occassions there being Champions Leagure footy on the telly.

I expect there'll go back up during the spring but in fairness your attendances are no worse that last season. I expect your average crowd will be somewhere over the 600 mark which is better than last season.
