Yes, I'm confused too.

 

We touched on this subject last week in a conversation with Iron Webbo, and I was unsure on something he said about shareholders, but I never got round to asking for clarification.

Shares are what give you the ownership i.e. legal title to the company.

They are set at a nominal value, so if you can agree a purchase price for a private company, then you can take control of it by having the shares transferred to you.

Those shares are worth much more to them than £50,000.

The £1 shares are the nominal value and have nothing to do with their real value.

 

They are worth all of the assets divided by the number of shares plus any profit that they can make.

 

So for instance if there was one share (£1), and the ground was worth £10 then the real value of the shares would be £10+.
