Haven't got Volume 31 with me for some reason, but judging by what's missing, it must have been the Nov/Dec 95 edition, including stuff like Wonderwall, The Universal by Blur, Kelly's Heroes by Black Grape etc.

Can't wait to listen to all this lot today!

Volume 28 must have been when the Help album came out, I remember the album because I had to cut the tracklist out of a newspaper for that one.

Saying that I would plump for vol 28 as the best, got my fave Radiohead track, the wonderful Olympian by Gene, touch of Black Grape and my fave Charlatans track too. There's obviously a bit of a homage to the battle of the bands for no.1 it was country house v roll with it wasn't it?

Steve - I've still got the cutting from the NME of the tracklists tucked inside my copy of Help!

Agreed on Lucky - brilliant piece of music!

re: Battle of the bands - I remember refusing to buy Roll With It until the following week, as I desperately wanted Blur to win! Unfortunately, all that hard work was undone by YELLOW going out and buying 75 copies of the Oasis one!

Nevertheless, Blur went on to win the singles battle, if not the album war. Hindsight shows Blur won overall though, in my opinion.

I am afraid I'm one of those people who thought Oasis were better at the time. I think with hindsight, Blur are the better bunch, simply produced better albums for longer.

But it was around Knebworth time and it would have been hard to sway me from Oasis since Def Maybe and What's The Story?

I am one of those who has not really been impressed with Oasis since What's The Story. I don't have a problem with them but, well it's not the same, they should have not been so generous with their B sides, The Masterplan album would have been their crowning glory, I guess they peaked too soon.

Then again I know plenty of people who thought Radiohead had gone off their rockers once Kid A was out. Sometimes you stick with things sometimes you don't. I have blinkers when it comes to this band, the Betas and a few others who I believe can simply do no wrong. Then I'm reminded that's what I once thought about Oasis.

At the time of the Roll With It single, I was definitely more Blur. Morning Glory was yet to come out, I preferred Parklife to Def Maybe, and Whatever was the only Oasis single which I thought was absolutely amazing.

But when Morning Glory came out I was blown away, and frankly it pissed over The Great Escape.

Then I was fully Oasis from the end of 95, through 96 and Knebworth, right up until '97 when the Blur album (with Beetlebum etc.) came out and was excellent, and Be Here Now was such a disappointment. Been Blur ever since!

One day I'll grow up!

Jkif I like the Academy, always a good sound always a decent view.

I gave it because I went there this year. I actually like the Astoria quite a bit, the ICA is really nice and I think the Kentish Town Forum, whilst it was a bit rough, was a good venue too.

Got to say one of my favourite gigs of all time was at the Cambridge Corn Exchange of all places. But I think it was one of my first gigs and there's probably a bit of bias because of that.

Haven't been to any of the above this year though!

YB, agree with you on What's The Story, but it toook a while to get in to Blur's later stuff. But overall I think Blur are the better lot. But you know who I rate above all of them.
