Thoughts On A New Stadium

I haven’t heard anything recently, but gently bently and there’s plenty of time.

Our programme has featured a page showing the stadium at Stevenage for some time now, with details of the developers. I assume that if the stadium was to go ahead then this company and associates would manage the construction. When looking closely at the page, you wonder if something like that could really be for our Island. It looks really impressive and I just wondered if a stadia such as this would be more appealing for a number and attract more supporters. Given the location, it would sort of be stretching out to the reaches of Benfleet, Pitsea and surrounding areas too.

I don’t know. These thoughts could be wrong, but I wonder if our location at Park Lane in some way is not appealing and a fresh new look could encourage quite a number of others to come over, if managed and marketed correctly in the early games. The appetite could be there for a larger crowd and I believe our away fan following to home support ratio is perhaps the best in the division which may prove that the home appeal is not there.

A new stadium may resolve this.

definetly.. ok if you live down the point the site of the ground is great.. but for any fans off th eislands and away fans its as badlt located as is possible.. plus for island fans every single bus will go past the new ground.. and its a walk from benfleet station thus increasing bar takings.. (well from me anyway)

It'll be great seeing the floodlights on for a midweek evening kick off.

I would prefer to see a smaller stadia that accomodates the fans well and has a design which makes for a betetr atmosphere, than see a large half empty stadium with the minimum of facillities for fans, home or away.

Think it would attract more fans as well and save me from travelling to "the dark side" of the island <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" /> and your right Ken not a lot of people know where the ground is etc. and its location is not greatly advertised.

I did hear a rumour, probably from the village idiot, that it was going to cost nearly £5 million - which seems crazy compared to the costs of otehr which seem to be less than £3 million - we got any surveyors who may be able to shed some light on this..........

A covered terrace is a must - its a major factor in providing an atmosphere.

You can hardly hear anything at the Lane once the old wind blows up - yet it's more audible when coming from under one of the old "bus shelters"

Agree Canv EFM keep it to just above the minimum requirements, but with provision to expand at a later date. Did like the Accrington stand which wasn't hughe but did look decent for the size of club.

Would presume if there are no proper plans or design sneaking out from the club then it hasn't possibly progressed that much - but surely you need the plans to obtain permission?
