IT'S ST ALBANS CITY VS NEWCASTLE!!

Recommended Posts

IW, there may be a few negative posters on this site but JK is certainly not one of them.

The plain fact of the matter is that under Castle, we would have gone out of the Cup without so much as a whimper, whether it had been Yeading, Bognor or Halesowen.

The sad situation is that Yeading have not had to play anyone above their level of the game to net a home tie against Newcastle.

Only Bognor who are from Conference South. If you had by a minor miracle got through where would you have played the game? Obviously taking the game to Tyneside would have been the best option but if you couldn't have played it there, I suppose Vicarage Road would have been the best option.

Yellow

I don't think it is possible now just to play the game away, the FA have introdudced new rules following the Farnborough situation last year or the year before.

You can now only switch the game if your ground is declared unsafe and then the switch is to a neutral local club.

So its best to be drawn away like Exeter .....or better still at least be in the draw.

We used to get several international teams training at Clarence Park in preparation for their games at Wembley. Not that long ago really, up to the mid/late nineties. At the time, it was recognised as one of the finest playing surfaces in non-league football. That was when the pitch was religiously tended by the Council Parks Dept, though. A bit different from today.

Know about the FA ruling but can see it being overturned. Aparrently Yeading have The Sun's support in pressurising the FA to move the game to St James Park. Seems the romance of the FA Cup is well and truly gone!!

Hi Woody.

I wonder whether the apparent absence of international teams at t'Park preparing for a match at Wembley in recent years has more to do with the fact that Wembley has been demolished, rather than the quality of the playing surface at The Fortress. I seem to recall that Kevin Keegan and Manchester City were at Clarence Park last season preparing for a match against Spurs.

Which brings us back to the romance of the F.A. Cup and Yeading.

The national papers have taken the tie to heart. Good picture of the Kit Manager/Cleaner at The Warren. A load of rubbish about the Travelling 'Ding Faithful and all that folksy stuff about Non League football. Only 5 [only!] of their players are on contracts, the rest only get paid when they play, some as little as a tenner!

There have been times when the manager has had to go out into the High Street at 2.30 on match days looking for any person under 30, preferably a male, who looks as though they had ever kicked a football because one of the player's bike had a puncture while doing his paper round and he couldn't get to the ground in time. Jumpers for goalposts, etc. etc.

It read as though they played in Division 9 of the Observer Sunday League and were looking forward to their next game against The Dog and Duck Reserves.

The vision was dented when the paper printed a picture of Yeadings 'Commercial Manager' [whatever that is] standing on the pitch in front of the goal at 'The Gas Works End'. They have nets and there is a covered stand behind the goal! Don't get carried away, however. They only have two sets of posts and goals. They will need four if they want to play proper football and get a Conference grading like what we have got.

Good luck to 'em from me.

WHOAA!!

The penny has just dropped. Has anyone else realised? If we hadn't been expelled after the Heybridge game, it could have been us. Heybridge then took our place and lost to Yeading. IT COULD HAVE BEEN US!!

I wonder if anyone has mentioned that small fact to Gibbo. I have a picture of Karen flicking over the TV channels with the remote to avoid news of the draw. Hiding the national papers at home and the office. A vow of silence within the family back home on the Tyne. A pact with the chap who used to drive the red tractor and the Officials at The Mighty Saints.

The mission: prevent JG hearing who Newcastle or Yeading are to play in the F.A. Cup.

Eamsie: "The Magpies John?. No, sorry, I can't remember. It's Colchester or some lower league team. Yeading? No, I can't recall who they have either. Away at Hartlepool or somewhere. Now, about the new tractor".

Lippo: "F.A. Cup? No I didn't see the draw Mr Chairman. Anyway, you should have been there on Saturday, Mr Chairman. The two new lads did their stuff. [in the] second half we can take a lot of positives."

Karen: "There's no time to talk about football, John. Let's get the suitcase packed. You have a 3-week business trip to Latvia and I have to get you to Heathrow in two hours. I'll send you a text message with the result from wherever Colchester play. Should be a walk in the park for the Toon Army."

His secretary: "Sorry JG. What is the FA Cup? I'll do some reseach and let you know. Now, I'm sending a courier with those important papers for your meeting in the capital of Latvia."

You couldn't make it up.
