Cup Run

As someone who has been involved in politics, i gotta say that politicians do cave into pressure, not by asking nicely. When i had an hour long chat with Cllr Stokes his suggestions included merging Slough with another club. That's some civic pride.

I'm all for sitting down with councillors and thrashing out ideas, but if you saw this lot in action you too would tear your hair out.

They opposed the Britwell plan because it was Labours idea. They then spun bullshit that the club wants taxpayers money.

It is only with demonstrations and the media spotlight are on them that they will have to back down - a tie against Newcastle would have seriously piled on the pressure. Now we have to think of ways of continuing that pressure until the next elections.

I agree that clubs have to be well run, as you can read in an article i wrote in a recent programme about the difference between Hornchurch who relied on one rich benefactor and Lewes who are a really well run community club.

As far as i can see, Slough also want to be a well run community club - the britwell project would for example have had footie pitches local kids could use. Getting kids involved in stuff like this is also a way of stopping anti social behaviour.

We can also be reasonable and demonstrate at the same time (and lets face it the red card demo wasn't exactly confrontantial).

Football isn't a minority sport - it is the countrys most popular sport, and Slough is a footie mad town, unfortunately a lot of those people support premeriship sides, but some will come and watch Sloughs bigger games. Our job is too let people know why we are homeless and that with their pressure they can help get us back in Slough - something our cup run seriously helped with.

The point is that the council themselves haven't been reasonable.

The Leader of the Council made his now famous "woof woof" comment, slagged off the local paper for publishing it, then denied that he'd ever said it, then made a statement saying that the local paper had apologised to him for publishing it, then the local paper kicked up a stink bcause they had never apologised......this is just an example of how ludicrous and farcical the present councils behaviour has been over this issue. Add to that the intervention of Cllr Janik trying to set up secret meetings with STST in public car parks and asking for secrecy clauses to be signed, their whole frankly pathetic and shameful treatment of Martyn Deaner and Cllr Stokes mind blowing lack of comprehension of what they themselves had done and you'll see that most of the current council seem to be a little strange to say the least.

If they were ever in posession of the plot, they lost it long ago.

They have created a ridiculous situation and now seem to want to bury their heads in the sand and pretend it isn't happening. I truly don't think that those right at the top have the faintest clue of what they have orchestrated.....

I also do think that they severely underestimated STFC and it's supporters. They thought they were dealing with a few none too bright individuals who would do what they were told. The reality has come as quite a shock to them.

The recent publicity has certainly opened the eyes of a lot of local people to the plight of the club and it's been highlighted very favourably in both the national and local media. The club and the supporters have come out of this in a very positive light.

I agree keep up the pressure in a constructive way - which is exactly how it's been played so far.
